Massage started to become popular in the United States in the 1800′s and is now introduced as the "new medicine". Benefits of massage includes relaxation, promotes deeper breathing, improves posture, improves circulation, enhances skin tone and skin health, increases and promotes joint flexibility, enhances a calm mind, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-awareness, promotes mental alertness, and increases peace of mind. Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. Massage is manipulation of soft tissue by holding, causing movement, and/or applying pressure to the body. Therapy is a series of actions aimed at achieving or increasing health and wellness. The primary reasons that people do not receive massages on a regular basis is time and/or price. Total Therapy started as a traveling massage business in 2008. What is awesome about this? You can receive a relaxed massage on a table in the privacy of your home or office. A good massage will offer more than just the joy of relaxation, it will better prepare you to take care of everything and everyone in your life. My unique feature that distinguished my practice from others in that my clients don’t have to use their own valuable time and energy to find my business, drive there, find a parking space, have the massage, and then drive home. I come to them. After a relaxing massage the client can enjoy the affects of the massage longer in the privacy of their home. I strive in obtaining as much knowledge so I can help my client in the best way possible. In summer of 2011, I spent time taking some continuance of education classes to further my passion. Massage is not only a tool for relaxation, but also rehabilitation. Typically, a postural assessment is done at the initial meeting. This can be as informal as observation of static and/or dynamic movement or involve a series of photographs overlaid with plum lines to determine postural deviations. Actual measurements may be taken to quantify a baseline and subsequently retaken to document improvement. A series of sessions are then scheduled to address the individual needs and goals of the client. Once those needs and goals are met, it is suggested that a maintenance schedule be determined and adhered to. These may be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly as needed. A conditioning program is often appropriate to maximize gains and to help you achieve your goals.
