It shouldn't come as a surprise to me that if I have a hard time asking others for help, that it would also be hard for me to help myself. I consistently and frequently "forget" that I have such great tools at my disposal. I know all the "right things" to do, or all things I would tell patients to do, but can't often apply them to myself.

Here's to taking herbs, getting rest, and giving myself the grace and love I need.
(and finally, finally getting rid of this cough. One dose in and it's already easier)

It’s true!
These are all Common symptoms, but they are not Normal. Like your period, menopause is just supposed to come and go, without any issues. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms (or other ones like itching ears!), then it’s a sign that things aren’t working well in your body. But the good news? All of these can be helped with acupuncture and herbs. And I mean- drastically helped. I have patients going from 5 or 6 drenching soaks a night, and within a few weeks the night sweats are gone or are significantly improved. It's true! While these may all be common things that people experience, it is not Normal - which means, it shouldn't be happening.
In Chinese Medicine, all of these are symptoms, which means something isn't working correctly in your body. Painful periods, heavy flow, night sweats, irritability, painful s*x - none of these are normal, and despite you being told "that's just how it is", you don't have to live with it.

Want your body to work its best (Aka good digestion, good sleep, able to fight off illness, more energy, etc)? One of the easiest ways to do that is to eat seasonal foods. At our core, we are all just animals, which means we should follow the cycles of nature. Seasonal food can be a huge boost to our health, focus on adding in more of what you love and don’t worry about getting it all in, these are just options! And remember that nourishment comes not only from the food we eat, but the joy we take in it as well. Life is too short to eat things we don’t like!

Did you know that sometimes Instagram will disable your account for “s*xual content” by which they mean: posts showing coercive s3x, assault, trafficking, etc. And then, when you contest it (because that’s not at all your content), they ignore you. For a really long time despite repeated messages. And then one day you message, and they say “whoopsies, our bad, turns out nothings wrong”? Yeah. Me neither. But good news, I’m back! Menopause and perimenopause can both affect your health - it can lead to anxiety, feeling an increase in stress, depression, irritability, and anger. Part of this is due to a change in hormones - and a lack of a feeling of control over your body (it really sucks to randomly break out in a sweat), but it can also come from a resistance to the natural aging process.

Because we are told that as people with a vu1va or those who identify as a woman, that our only worth comes from our youth and our looks, it can be…unsettling to no longer be viewed as a s3xual being (which is pish posh. Most of my patients say the best s3x they have ever had was when they hit perimenopause and menopause, you just need more l**e).

This can be a hard shift to make, especially if you feel a strong tie to cultural norms around beauty. Spend some time getting acquainted with your body and check in on what you value about yourself - looks and personality included. Allow any feelings of sadness, loss, or anger about the role society has placed on you and how your value is determined. Talk with friends, a therapist, and listen to stories from older women who have gone through the same experience.

There is so much wisdom to gain from those that have come before us.

The Art of Putting on a Condom Properly 🍆 , as told by Anna Francis:

1️⃣ Step 1: Check the expiration date of your condoms. In general, they are not 100% effective at preventing pregnancy or STI’s (98% to be exact), but even less so if they are expired!

2️⃣ Step 2: Open the wrapper and removed the condom. 🎁 They are lubricated so it will feel a bit sticky.

3️⃣ Step 3: Hold the condom by the tip (you can tell its the right way if it looks like a fold-over beanie.)

4️⃣ Step 4: Place the condom over the tip of an erect p***s or over a toy used for pe*******on.
You should use a condom on an insertable toy if you either plan on sharing the toy with your parter or if you are going to switch from a**l to va**nal s*x - you don’t want to bring bacteria from your re**um into your va**na, that is a case of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) just waiting to happen.

5️⃣ Step 5: Roll the condom down the shaft of the p***s while still pinching the top - this ensures no air remains at the top which can split the condom!

6️⃣ Step 6: Add l**e 💦 (it makes s*x better for everyone) and enjoy!

Pro-tip: The actual percentage of p***ses who require Magnum or XL condoms is relatively small. Standard condoms are designed to stretch and work for majority of situations.

What are the best ways to manage insomnia during menopause?

🌿 Herbs! They are highly, highly effective at relieving symptoms of menopause (including hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, etc). Let's talk and see if Chinese herbs can provide you relief.

😴 Have a good bedtime routine: stay off screens an hour before, meditate or journal if your mind tends to run at night, longer exhale breathing can help (4 count inhale, 6 count exhale)

🥕 Eating foods that nourish yin, like root vegetables (carrots, parsnips, potatoes, yams, beets, etc), tofu, tempeh, black sesame seeds, black beans, kidney beans, mung beans, walnuts, millet, barley, pears, apples, melons, cucumber, oysters, pork...just to name a few!
