Articles in The Townsend Letter for doctors and patients as well as The Wall Street Journal concerning the rise of breast cancer in the United States, stated that some of the culprits contributing to this increase were the toxic and mutagenic ingredients commonly found in almost all cosmetic products. Most skin care products contain preservatives, dyes, and chemicals that have No Value in the beautification of the skin and may in fact contribute to hormonal or endocrine changes that are responsible for breast cancer and other toxic illnesses. It is no secret that anything applied to the skin can be and almost always is absorbed into the blood stream and must be handled as a toxic compound. An example would be the chemical preservative, paraben. Parabens are endocrine disrupters that mimic the hormone estrogen and have been found to accumulate in the tissue of women with breast cancer. Safer alternatives are available, such as essential oils which are antibacterial, antifungal and anti-viral and do not disrupt endocrine systems and do not accumulate in the breast tissue and body organs. These essential oils however are not as stable as paraben, therefore Milagro products do not have long shelf lives, they must always be fresh and must be turned over in 2 years. Parabens on the other hand can increase shelf life up to 6 to 8 years which is why the major cosmetic companies use them. Other dangerous chemicals are added to most cosmetic products to enhance their texture, elegance, or appearance. The Milagro products provide the same elegance without the toxins. They are more costly to produce but the effort is worthwhile as potential poisons are eliminated. Milagro products also use the exact isomer or the “Chrially” correct form of a nutrient which is more active and more efficiently utilized by the skin. No unnecessary ingredients are added to the products. If the ingredient does not perform some very important function in the product, it is not included. Milagro products are the finest, most active, non toxic skin nutrients to be found on the market at a price that is reasonable. Louis Pasteur first recognized a difference in molecules of the same compound in 1848 when he was researching fermentation processes for the wine industry in France. Many scientific discoveries occur accidentally. In this case Pasteur accidentally re-crystallized a “strange racemic acid” and discovered that it was actually a bond of two chemically identical and yet mirror images of tartaric acid. Since then an equal bond of mirror-image, yet chemically identical, molecules has been called a “racemic mix”. Most biologically important molecules are chiral. “Chirally correct”, by definition, is used to describe objects (in this case molecules) that are not super imposable on their mirror image. An example of this would be the human hand. No matter how the left and right hands are placed, it is impossible for all the features of both hands to coincide, this is why you cannot place a left glove on a right hand. The term “chiral” comes from the Greek word for hand XEP (Kheir). In chemistry, chiral usually refers to molecules. Two mirror images of a chiral molecule are called enantiomers or optical isomers. Pairs of isomers are often called “right-handed” or “left-handed”. This is of interest to us because of its applications in organic chemistry. For example, Ascorbic Acid is a form of Vitamin C. The mirror images of Ascorbic Acid are then called “L-Ascorbic Acid” and “D-Acscorbic Acid”. Even though these molecules are almost identical – the only difference being the mirror image – the human body can only use one of the molecules. In this case it is the “L-Ascorbic Acid” that the human body can use. When synthetic molecules are created for use in some skincare lines, the synthetic molecules are often mirror image to the natural molecules, as in Vitamin C. These synthetic chemicals are identified by a prefix of “L” or “D”. Chirally correct skincare contains only products that are molecularly appropriate for the human body to use. Nothing synthesized. There is nothing inflammatory in Milagro Skin Health. Therefore there is little possibility for an allergic or adverse reaction with a chirally correct product. By definition, irritation, inflammation and synthetics lead to damage of the skin which equates with aging. What is L-Ascorbic Acid?

Generally, most people know vitamin C for its benefits when fighting the common cold or to treat scurvy; however, vitamin C plays a significant role in maintaining the healthy functioning of the skin. L-ascorbic acid is one of the two forms of vitamin C found in nature and is the most biologically active, meaning it is the most beneficial. L-ascorbic acid’s potency makes it the preferred form of vitamin C for most dermatological and skincare products. L-ascorbic acid’s full name may look a little daunting, but it just refers to a specific structure of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid is the name of vitamin C in the body, and L in L-ascorbic acid refers to the way the molecule rotates to light.

L-ascorbic acid is the most abundant antioxidant in the body; however, humans cannot produce it on our own, unlike other mammals. Instead, we extract vitamin C through our diet or supplementation. Vitamin C is involved in many processes within our bodies, so the vitamin C we absorb gets distributed to all our cells. However, our skin is often the last organ to receive vitamin C and does not receive it at the concentrations required to affect the skin in any significant way.

L-ascorbic acid is found in nature in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, broccoli, leafy greens, grapefruit, and peppers. It is also found in sources such as Kakadu Plum and Hibiscus, sources used in clean beauty vitamin C products. Unfortunately, the amount of vitamin C in these sources is impacted by cooking and its freshness. This impact is partly due to the breakdown of L-ascorbic acid that occurs when it is exposed to air, high temperatures, and water. Most balanced diets will provide your body with enough vitamin C to support your health. However, naturally occurring sources aren’t stable enough or contain enough vitamin C to improve the skin’s appearance. This is why L-ascorbic acid used in products is often synthetically sourced.
