This is one of my favorite that I share with patients because it offers so much regarding the nature of our emotions and how to approach them with curiosity and kindness—even when they are unpleasant!
🌾Here, Rumi compares our emotions to guests we can invite into our home, and then essentially allow them to leave honorably without turmoil. In my work, I add in the visual of having a “cup of tea” with the visitor and getting to know it a bit before it leaves so we can better understand it☺️☕️.
🌾The less we fight with our emotions and not try to push them out, the more protected we are from their potential brutal impact, and also the more likely they are to pass through us organically and allow for a clearer mind and spirit✨.
🌾Perhaps, as Rumi, suggests, these emotions may be opening us up to be able to appreciate the beauty of all of our positive feelings such as peace and joy! Furthermore, a nonjudgmental and curious lens allows us to learn more about our experience, strengthening our connection to ourselves 🥰.
