Occupational Therapist Nancy Danhauer is retiring after 34 years at Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital!

Though she started her career 42 years ago, Nancy found a home here. “The staff at Marianjoy is helpful, friendly and professional. Every department works well together and supports and respects each other's roles and disciplines. The consistent caring atmosphere provides excellent patient care and provides pride in working for such a fine institution,” says Nancy.

“I know that Marianjoy will continue to lead the way in providing the most comprehensive and innovative treatment in the area of rehabilitation. It has been an honor to work with each and every one of you here at Marianjoy. Thank you for all of the memories!”

Thanksgiving Week at Marianjoy kicked off with the Therapy Department’s annual pie-eating contest! Nominated by their peers, participants from Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, plus a resident physician and a rehabilitation technician, battled it out to find the hidden gummy bears in their pies. This year’s winner, Speech-Language Pathologist Halley D., took home the coveted trophy and, of course, bragging rights!

We are excited to welcome Samuel Onusko, MD, to Marianjoy!

Dr. Onusko is fellowship-trained in brain injury medicine and completed his residency at MetroHealth System in Ohio. He is board-certified in brain injury medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Onusko’s clinical interests include concussion management, amputation rehabilitation, swallowing studies, BOTOX injections and baclofen pump management. He will be seeing patients in the Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group Clinic at Marianjoy, as well as the Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinic and the Procedure Center on campus.

For Spiritual Care Week, we’re highlighting our Spiritual Care team. They provide emotional, spiritual and faith-based support that honors the dignity, values, and unique beliefs of each person. All members of the team are chaplains, professionally trained to accompany people through difficult times.

On average, the team conducts about 800 patient visits per month, reflecting their commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of our patients.
