Put a star * on May 18th at 1 pm! Benwood-McMechen Housing Authority and Altenheim Resource Services are partnering to offer a free program that is open to the community!

MEDICARE: AN OVERVIEW will explain the basics of Medicare.

What can you expect from your Medicare coverage? What is the difference between a Medicare Supplement (or Medigap) and a Medicare Advantage product? What are the special deals they offer on TV? How can I determine what is best for me or my loved one??

Elizabeth Blake, West Virginia State Health Insurance Assistance Program (or SHIP) counselor, will be at the Kubeck Room, 2200 Marshall Street, McMechen WV, to explain the world of Medicare. [SHIP services are offered at no cost, and the program is not affiliated with insurance companies.]

There is no charge for the program, which is open to the community. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

The information is invaluable for those with questions about Medicare coverage!

Long-Term Care Medicaid in WV: An Overview of Long-Term Care Medicaid & Legal Concerns, Monday, April 27 at 10:30am at Family Service Upper Ohio Valley, 2200 Main Street, Wheeling with guest speakers Kathy Fisher, WV Department of Human Services and Ryan Rokisky, Elder Law Attorney, Rokisky, McCune, Wilharm, Blair, & Risovich. Free and open to the community.

Senior Support Fair, Tuesday, May 5 from 10am - 2pm at the Ohio Valley Mall, St Clairsville. Information, giveaways, and door prizes.

"An Overview of Social Security" with Kimberly Miller, Social Security Administration, will be presented on Thursday, April 16 at 10:30am at Family Service Upper Ohio Valley, 2200 Main Street, Wheeling.

"Planning for Long-Term Care in WV: An Overview of Long-Term Medicaid and Legal Concerns" with Kathy Fisher, WV Department of Human Services, and Ryan Rokisky, Elder Law Attorney, with Rokisky, McCune, Wilharm, Blair, & Risovich LLC will be held on Monday, April 27, at 10:30am at Family Service Upper Ohio Valley, 2200 Main Street, Wheeling.

The programs are free and open to all who are interested.

It's really cold! Take care of your animals and your humans!

Another winter weather reminder:
Check on your older friends and family. Wind chills are supposed to be brutal.
Make sure to block drafty doors and windows to save heat.
If you go out, dress in layers. Wear gloves and a hat (Mom was right!).
Stay safe!

Spring is only 60 days, 2 hours, and 11 minutes (as of RIGHT now) away.

Winter drags on with snow, wind, and ice. Be cautious when walking outside. Wear shoes with good grip. Dress in layers. Wear a hat. (Mom was right!) Keep some emergency items in your car such as a blanket, hand warmers, and a tool to break your window in case it won't open.

Check on your older family, friends, and neighbors!
