The Brook Center The Brook Center provides ABA therapy for children 2-18, fostering growth with compassionate care

Big news from Dickson Parks & Recreation:

Over the last 6 months we have been quietly working on something behind the scenes and now we’re proud to introduce Adaptive Recreation, a new step forward in creating more inclusive opportunities for everyone in our community.

We’re kicking things off with Adaptive Flag Football, in partnership with the Dickson Dolphins. This program is designed to provide a supportive, engaging environment where athletes of all abilities can learn, compete, and have fun.

This is just the beginning. Our goal is to continue building programs that meet people where they are and open the door for more families to be part of what we do.

More details are coming soon. Stay tuned.

Parent Tip: Not every behavior needs to be “fixed.”

Many of the things we see in young children —
tantrums, difficulty waiting, big reactions, trouble with transitions —
are developmentally normal.

That doesn’t mean we ignore them.
It means we teach through them.

You can support your child by:
✨ Modeling calm responses
✨ Keeping expectations clear and consistent
✨ Teaching communication in the moment
✨ Supporting regulation before expecting compliance

These early years are about building skills — not expecting perfection.

Your child is learning.
And so are you. 💚

What does good ABA actually look like?

It’s a question we think more parents should feel confident answering.

If you’re a parent receiving services, here are a few things to reflect on:

• How often do I see or communicate with my child’s BCBA?
• Am I seeing meaningful progress over time — not just busy sessions?
• Am I given options and included in decisions about my child’s care?
• Are goals individualized and focused on real-life skills?
• Do I feel supported and understood as a parent?

Quality ABA should feel collaborative, transparent, and intentional — not confusing or distant.

At The Brook Center, we believe:
✨ Parents are part of the team
✨ Decisions are thoughtful and data-driven
✨ Communication should be consistent and clear
✨ Skills taught should matter beyond the clinic

You deserve to feel confident in the care your child is receiving.

As we recognize Autism Awareness and Acceptance, we want to be clear about what that means to us. 💚

Acceptance is not about lowering expectations.
It’s about understanding, respecting, and supporting each child’s unique way of experiencing the world.

It means:
✨ Honoring neurodiversity
✨ Supporting communication in all forms
✨ Teaching meaningful, functional skills
✨ Building independence with compassion

We believe acceptance and growth go hand in hand.

And every child deserves both. 💛

As we head into Autism Acceptance Month, we’ve been reflecting on what “acceptance” truly means to us at The Brook Center. 💚

Acceptance does not mean lowering expectations.
It does not mean ignoring skill development.

It means honoring each child’s unique strengths, differences, and ways of experiencing the world — while still intentionally teaching the skills that increase independence, confidence, and quality of life.

We believe in:
✨ Celebrating neurodiversity
✨ Building meaningful, individualized programming goals
✨ Supporting families with compassion
✨ Teaching skills that matter beyond the clinic walls

Acceptance and growth can coexist.
Compassion and structure can coexist.

And that’s the foundation we build from — every single day. 💛

Play isn’t “just play.”
It’s where regulation, language, and social skills are built.

Parent Tip:
If your child loves pretend play, lean into it.
You can build skills by:
✨ Narrating what they’re doing (“The dinosaur is stomping!”)
✨ Adding simple problem-solving (“Uh oh, he fell. What should we do?”)
✨ Practicing turn-taking (“My turn to be the dinosaur!”)
✨ Expanding language (“He’s a big, green, fast dinosaur.”)

You don’t need worksheets.
You don’t need complicated plans.
You just need connection and a little intention.

Some of the best learning happens when it feels like fun. 💚

March feels like a reset.

A little more daylight.
A little more fresh air.

A little reminder that growth doesn’t always look dramatic — sometimes it just looks like sitting still, noticing, and pointing forward.
In ABA, we talk about progress in measurable ways. Data. Trends. Skill acquisition.

But growth also looks like this:
✨ Curiosity
✨ Shared attention
✨ Slowing down
✨ Connection

Not every season is explosive progress. Some seasons are foundational. And foundations matter.
As we step into March, here’s your reminder:
Growth isn’t linear.
Hard weeks don’t erase progress.
Small moments shape long-term outcomes.
We’ll keep building — one steady step at a time. 💚

Sometimes progress looks quiet.

It looks like waiting.
Watching a peer.
Practicing self-control.
Learning when to engage.
Not every skill is loud or obvious — but these moments are foundational.

At The Brook Center, we focus on building independence, regulation, and social awareness — even in the small, simple moments.

That’s where real growth happens. 💚

The week after Christmas can feel a little upside down — new toys, late nights, changed routines, extra excitement, extra emotions… all totally normal.

If your child is having a harder time this week, here are a few gentle supports that can make the days feel smoother:
✨ Use a simple visual schedule to give predictability
✨ Prep for transitions with countdowns or “first/then”
✨ Offer movement breaks to help regulate big energy
✨ Build in connection moments — they go further than we think
✨ Lower the expectations and extend yourself grace

Shifts in routine are tough for many kiddos, especially during the holidays. None of this means you’re doing anything wrong — it just means your child is adjusting.

You’ve got this. One calm, compassionate moment at a time.
