Something happened in our community…and everyone had a reaction. But here’s the question no one is asking:
👉 What would YOU have done in that moment?
When someone is in crisis—
in a grocery store, a parking lot, right in front of you—
do you know how to respond?
Or do we react out of fear… confusion… or assumptions?
💛 This Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m inviting our community into a real, honest conversation: “We Can Do Better: A Community Conversation on How to Support People in Crisis”
This is not a lecture.
This is not just for professionals.
This is for EVERYONE.
Crisis doesn’t wait for the “right” person to show up.
I’m bringing more than 25 years of expertise to what I share…
but more importantly, I’m bringing you into my life.
As a lifelong caregiver, I was introduced early to the realities of mental health and substance use.
As a mother of a son with autism, I’ve lived the moments most people only witness.
As a professional, I’ve worked inside systems that help and sometimes fail.
And twenty five years ago, in a moment of crisis…I asked for help.
Instead ...
🚨 I was arrested.
That moment didn’t just change my life.
It changed how I view and respond to a crisis interaction.
Sometimes, what looks like “behavior”… is actually fear, overwhelm, or a desperate attempt to communicate.
We’ll talk about:
✨ What’s really happening in moments of crisis
✨ How autism, mental health, trauma, and substance abuse can show up in public
✨ What helps, and what makes things worse
✨ What YOU can do in the moment, even as a bystander
Because sometimes, the difference between trauma and safety…
is one person who chose compassion.
Come be part of the conversation.
Come be part of change.
Join me May 19th at 6pm at Mission: Agape.
ALL ARE WELCOME. Free to all. Just bring an open mind and heart.
