The Sacred Feminine: Reclaiming your divine self
Thursday September 22nd through Sunday September 25th.

During our 4-night 3-day retreat, intentionally scheduled during the fall equinox and new moon, women will step into their divine light. In a sacred and safe space created by Lila and Denise, you will reconnect and reclaim the aspects of the Sacred Feminine and understand the interplay between the Sacred Feminine and Sacred Masculine. The schedule clears dense energy that may impact your ability to fully step into your source power and reconnects you to your true essence-joy, love and divinity.

As we gather in a circle, we celebrate our femininity. We honor each other and our unique stories. Through this organic, and fluid process, you will reclaim your sacred feminine, soften your heart, deepen your connection with Self and others, and leave embodying the Sacred Feminine.

Our daily sessions include yoga classes, somatic healing sessions, yoga nidra, movement, journaling, sacred circles, bonfire and receive the healing power of reiki during our closing Reiki Circle. All while enjoying the great outdoors and sacred energies of the Catskill Mountains.

Open to all who identify as a woman, in all life stages. This retreat is limited to 13 women-one for each cycle of the moon.

Karma Yoga: refers to one of the four spiritual paths. Through acts of selfless love and offering we are blessed with self-realization.

I am excited to announce that Mind Shift Mountain is partnering with Passages of Hope later this summer. Offerings will include Mindfulness self care opportunities for staff, and a segment called healing through spoken word for the young people who reside in the cottages.

Passages of Hope offers support to Unaccompanied minors, by providing shelter, education and social-emotional support. The young people are supported in a myriad of ways, including support with family reunification and foster care placement.

As a Karma Yogi, humanitarian and a first generation immigrant this work is very dear to my heart.

Recreational efforts rely on fundraising. Open your heart and connect with your karma yogi by donating here (www.risingground.org)

I lead myself through my own healing journey.

When I was 26 years old, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The diagnosis came after a highly stressful period in my life. In addition to managing everyday stress, working through my history of trauma, that year my mother was hospitalized with a lung infection, placed in a medically induced coma, and was later intubated. She spent 7 months in rehabilitation. I spent every day by her side. So when I started to experience significant pain in the abdomen, inability to have bowel movements and the sensation of being stabbed in the stomach with chards of glass–I went to see a gastroenterologist. After an endoscopy and a colonoscopy I was diagnosed with IBS and was told that I could take a daily medication that would help alleviate the symptoms.

By this point in my life I was aware that our body is our most delicate fire alarm. When we are not balanced, our body, mind and spirit will express dis-ease. I thanked the doctor for their support. I knew that what I needed to do was help my body get back to a state of balance.

I was, and have always been a mindful eater, with a clean diet. I understood that my eating habits were not the issue.

The issue was inflammation caused by stress.

I immersed myself into nature, reconnecting with my higher self. I dove deep into my practice of Vipassana Meditation.

In moments in which I experienced a flare up, I consumed fresh ginger and turmeric, drank warm mint tea and rested.

Seventeen years later I have learned that bouts of IBS are one of my internal fire alarms. These alarms remind me, sometimes not so gently, that perhaps I am not in balance with myself. It is a reminder to honor myself. To eat properly, to breathe, to rest and meditate.

Although I believe in the importance of both eastern and western medicine; there was no need for me to start taking daily medication. Depending on someone's diagnosis and course of treatment, I am often curious if integrative and holistic therapies have been considered. At times these remedies may not be as “quick” acting as a pill in a bottle–but the long-term benefits are significant. First and foremost, holistic remedies honor the body and allow it to heal. The remedy does not attempt to “mask” the symptom. Instead it pushes us to understand the root cause. Medications often have side effects–so understanding which holistic benefits are available may decrease additional side effects. I am personally sensitive to medication.

My direct experience with healing my body through mindfulness practices and integrative medicines is why I do this work. I believe everyone has a right to live pain free.

My belief that one can heal both emotionally and physically comes directly from my own experience. Both of my parents struggled with alcoholism throughout my life.

The chaos, coupled with an unhealthy relationship in my adolescence resulted in a bout of major depression when I was 19 years old. In my heart, I knew I was not meant to live with this level of pain. Culturally, I was taught to keep family matters in the home. There was not only a great stigma around mental health. The reality is no one spoke about mental health. I understand that not talking about mental health is both generational and cultural. We have come a long way since then, and I know there are more strides to be made.

So how did I manage to heal from depression? First, know that it was a journey. It did not happen overnight. I dove into the indigenous healing practices taught to me by my mother.

I expanded my learnings and dove head first into understanding the "Red Path" or the middle way. I prayed and I meditated. I was learning to "control" my mind and my emotions. I now know that what I was practicing was not control of the mind, but as a 20-year-old, this was the best way to describe it. Soon my practice led me toward Buddhism. I quickly learned the similarities between the two paths. I drank up the knowledge before me. I established mindfulness practice. I began to experience relief from the pain that is mental health illness. My journey led towards wise women and healers.

I knew I was living my purpose and responding to the universal call to heal others. Depression, like many other mental health illnesses, manifests itself in physical ailments; as well as affects the spiritual self. Healing then is dynamic.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to guide others on their journey toward healing. I was called to do this work when I was a young child, very clearly understanding my purpose.

To heal is to attend to mind, body, and soul.

Have you ever experienced this "extra" heavy feeling that you can’t seem to shake?

These emotions may feel scary and possibly out of our control. My recommendation for you is to seek out an experienced professional who can guide you through the ebb and flow of your experience. I too have experienced this within my own journey of navigating depression. What I have found personally is that it is both empowering and therapeutic (to myself and others) to speak about it, in the awareness of my thoughts and emotions.

I have learned to recognize the difference between “feeling low” and signs of a depressive episode. Most importantly I have learned how to care for myself and heal. Sharing our story not only removes the stigma surrounding mental health, but it can also offer hope and healing to those currently experiencing mental illness. If you’d like to share privately about the thoughts that may be arising for you, I’m available to support you.

If you feel called join our upcoming workshop ‘It's OK not to be OK: Caring for your emotional & mental health’ on either Thursday, June 16th at 6pm est or Saturday, June 25th at 11am est.
