Couple's Therapy In Office or Telehealth (MT & NJ)
I use an approach called Emotion-Focused Therapy to work with couples. In this approach, the negative cycle that brought you in is identified, and that becomes our target. We want to target the interactional style, not each other. Then, we work on understanding that target on deeper levels and dig into the meat of what each partner’s responses means to us and how it affects our behavior, which then effects their behavior because of the meaning it has to them. Does that make sense? It is slow work that harkens back to our very earliest attachment histories. Those histories get played out in our relationships, and it is through this lens that I seek to deepen the empathy between you and your partner so that old traumas can heal and so that you and your partner can grow together, rather than apart. This December, let’s go back to basics. 🌿

Welcome to December! The calendars are filling up and the "holiday hustle" is officially here. But before you rush into the noise, pause for a Monday check-in with yourself.

At Sage, we believe healing starts with a simple framework. Use this as your mantra for the week:
✨ Support: Who can you lean on this week? (It’s okay to ask!)
✨ Accept: Can you accept your feelings today without judgment?
✨ Give: Give yourself grace if you aren't feeling "festive" yet.
✨ Empower: What is one small boundary you can set to protect your peace?

You don’t have to do it all perfectly. You just have to be present.

Which word resonates most with you today: Support, Accept, Give, or Empower? Let us know in the comments! 👇

It’s Thanksgiving Eve. The grocery stores are packed, the ovens are preheating, and the travel bags are packed. There is a lot of emphasis on prepping the food, but at Sage Psychological Services, we want to remind you to prep your mind, too.

Tomorrow can bring a mix of joy, connection, and gratitude—but for many, it also brings anxiety, difficult family dynamics, or feelings of loneliness. Both sets of feelings are valid.

Before the big day begins, add these three things to your "prep list":
1) First, set realistic expectations. The meal doesn’t have to be perfect, and the conversations don't have to resolve years of history. Aim for "good enough."
2) Second, plan your pauses. If things get overwhelming tomorrow, where is your escape route? A five-minute walk outside, offering to wash dishes alone, or a few deep breaths in the restroom can reset your nervous system.
3) Third, pre-set your boundaries. Decide today what topics you won't discuss and how much time you have energy for. It is okay to say "I'd rather not talk about that today" or to leave earlier than expected.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday. Remember to be gentle with yourself amidst the hustle. 🍂

✨ Motivation Monday: Cultivating Gratitude for Our Inner Journey ✨

As we step into Thanksgiving week, Sage Psychological Services invites you to a different kind of reflection. Amidst the busyness, take a moment to acknowledge your inner world.

This week, we're especially grateful for:
- Your Resilience: The strength you show in navigating life's challenges.
- Your Growth: Every step you take towards understanding and healing yourself.
- Your Commitment to Well-being: Choosing to prioritize your mental health, even when it's tough.

Thanksgiving is a beautiful time to connect with loved ones, but remember to connect with yourself too. Nurturing your mental well-being is the foundation for genuine gratitude and joy.

This week, practice one small act of self-care each day. It could be a mindful breath, a quiet moment, or simply acknowledging your feelings without judgment.

🧠 Monday Check-In: Your Mindset Matters

Instead of seeing Monday as the start of a chore list, try reframing it as the beginning of a new opportunity for clarity and growth.

This Week's Challenge: Identify one negative thought pattern and consciously choose a more helpful alternative every time it pops up. Example: "I have too much to do" ➡️ "I will focus on one priority at a time."

We believe in the power of small, consistent shifts. Ready to explore yours?

We often think of "healing" as a straight line from point A to point B. But in reality? It looks a lot more like a spiral. 🌀

At Sage Psychological Services, we want to remind you that taking a step backward doesn't mean you failed. It just means you are human.

If you are feeling overwhelmed today, try the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique: 👀 5 things you can see. 👋 4 things you can touch. 👂 3 things you can hear. 👃 2 things you can smell. 👅 1 thing you can taste.

Take a deep breath. You are right here, right now.

⏸️ Monday Check-In: The Gift of the Pause
The holiday season is quickly approaching, and before the calendar fills up, remember to give yourself the most important gift: the pause.

It’s easy to get swept up in the endless list of tasks—shopping, planning, traveling. But taking just 5 minutes today to deliberately slow down and check in with your emotional state can drastically reduce stress later in the week.

Tip for Today: Put your phone down. Notice one thing you can hear, one thing you can smell, and one thing you can feel. That simple connection to the present moment is a powerful form of self-care.

You deserve to navigate this season with calm and intention. We’re here to support your journey.

☀️ Good Morning & Happy Monday from Sage Psychological Services!

As you step into this week, let's replace pressure with patience and high expectations with gentle action.

You don't have to conquer the world today. You just have to be present for the parts of it that need you—including yourself. If your mind is racing, try this grounding reminder: "It is okay to move slowly. Sustainable growth happens one intentional step at a time."

Be kind to your mind this week.
