Where are all my perimenopausal women who are trying to make sense of all the changes in their bodies?!?
-
Have you seen the latest information and podcasts with Dr Stacy Sims, Dr. Marie Haver, and Dr. Vonda Wright? They are finally getting the attention they deserve.
-
SOO much amazing information coming out about women specifically and how to train differently…
Age does matter and women are not little men!
-
Last week I had the pleasure to speak at Wynn Hospital with Dr Julie Perlanski about woman’s health across the lifespan with a specific focus on perimenopause, menopause and post menopause.
-
So what are the big take aways through all the noise!?
Eat before training! The literature on fasting has been done on men and new research is showing women should not workout fasted!
-
Women adapt to heat better. The ice cold causes too much constriction for women so if you plan on doing cold keep it closer to 55 degrees F. or use Heat!!
-
Weight train! HEAVY! (Begin somewhere!)
Jump train
Focus on intensity AND focus on rest (Volume matters as we need more time to recover in this phase of life)
Eat your fiber!
Eat your protein (from real food!!)
-
There is so much more and I look forward to continuing this conversation as women are beginning to speak about women’s health! This is something near and dear to me, as I have been one of those women who used cold and fasted heavily in my 30’s.
-
As I entered my 40’s I certainly learned the rules had changed with my training and eating and I’m so grateful to finally get some woman focused research and discussion! It can definitely get confusing out there with all the noise!
