January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month. Each year more than 13,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer, which is primarily due to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). ๐ŸŒธ HPV is common. 8 out of 10 adults will have HPV at some point in their lives. ๐ŸŒธ HPV is transmitted through s*xual contact. ๐ŸŒธ Usually the body clears up HPV on its own. ๐ŸŒธ Regular screening every 3-5 years from 21 to 65 years old can reduce cervical cancer cases and deaths. As many of us were told when we were younger, "Don't have s*x because you will get pregnant". So when it's time for us to actual try we assume it will happen right away. For some healthy couples it may take up to a year to get pregnant. Also, most women don't seek medical help until after they are already pregnant.
