Debris of food particles build up and decay in your mouth producing a sulfur compound that is responsible for foul odor, which will turn your tongue white. But the bacteria doesn't just linger in your mouth, it can travel as far down to the gut. There are some simple steps to prevent this:
Brush at least twice daily, floss regularly, and remember to change your tooth brush every 3 months. If you wear dentures, remove them at night and clean them thoroughly to eliminate bacteria build up from food/drinks. Brushing your tongue is just as important, tongue scrapers are effective and safe to use.
The best thing to use is a Germicidal mouth wash that reduces bacteria in the mouth, swelling and bleeding gums which can only be prescribed by a dentist.
If bad breath is becoming an issue for you, call us and make an apointment.
It's important to find out where the odor is coming from and whether or not it's due to a medical condition or a dental problem. We can perscribe you medicated mouth wash to get you started on the right path to a fresh, healthier mouth.

Did you know there is an entire ecosystem living in your mouth?! There is over 6 billion bacteria that reside, some good, others bad.
Happy Friday everyone! Today we will discuss about Halitosis, more commonly known as bad breath. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that grows in the mouth when you do not brush and floss regularly. What happens is, leftover food/drink particles remain trapped in between your teeth, under your gum, and on your tongue. The bacteria then mixes with your saliva which forms a sticky film on our teeth called plaque. When neglected, that plaque hardens into a stone-like substance called tartar. These harmful bacterias live in our mouths and feed on the sugars and starches we consume. This bacteria can even go as deep to the root of your tongue, traveling to your lungs and move to your stomach . Ever wonder where your tongue starts? Stay tuned next week for a continued post regarding this bacteria, the complexity of bad breath and how it can affect your health!

Imagine, a treatment that not only stimulates stem cells to form new connective tissues and collagen but bone too?!
Lasers are used in dentistry for various procedures. For some it is aesthetic. For example, one may have a naturally excessive amount of gum tissue which can overlap the teeth giving the tooth a shorter appearance than it really is and very gummy smile. The laser can then be used to reshape the gums, allowing more of the tooth underneath to become exposed, giving a naturally beautiful smile for the patients desired appearance.
In other cases, laser therapy is used for patients with mild to severe periodontal disease. Gingivitis occurs when a film of plaque or bacteria accumulates on the teeth and surrounding gum. Untreated, gingivitis can cause much more serious issues such as bone/tooth loss. Not only does laser gum treatment eliminate/removes the bacteria which reduces the swelling and excessive gum bleeding, but it is also less invasive than traditional gum surgery; there is no cutting, better results and faster healing time.

When your tooth cracks, breaks, or has decay too big for a filling to fix, crowns are then used to save and restore the tooth. There are two most commonly suggested options; metal free and porcelain fused to metal.
PFM crowns have a porcelain outter layer fused to metal. These crowns are strong and great for posterior chewing teeth. However, over a period of time the metal will permanently darken the tooth underneath due to the bodies rejection of the metal material and will also eventually be exposed as a dark line on the gum line.
Metal-free crowns have a natural finish, color matching is much more accurate (not having the dark metal undertone) and is aesthetically flattering especially for anterior teeth.
Additionally, metal free crowns are biocompatible, which means they will not have any negative reaction the surrounding gum or teeth.

Our office handles many delicate cases; some of which include the surgical placement of implants, bone grafting, and complicated wisdom teeth removal. You're health and safety are our #1 priority, that is why we use our CT Scan machine for these particular cases. The dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a unique type of digital X-ray that gives an in depth view of what's going on in your mouth, opposed to the traditional X-ray. The scan produces a 3-D image of your teeth, bone levels, soft tissue and nerve pathways which helps us provide the most efficient treatment.
Lastly, because the CT Scan exposes you to the lowest amount possible of ionizing radiation, you can feel at ease that your health is not at risk.
