Regulation isn’t pretending you’re okay.
It’s staying connected to yourself while you’re not okay.

Suppression keeps you functional short-term—but it often shows up later as anxiety, shutdown, irritability, or exhaustion.

Try this today:
Name what you feel + where you feel it + one need you have.
That’s regulation.

1) Lower the room temp (reduce stimuli):
• pause extra conversations
• step away from noise/bright lights
• reduce decision-making (choose one next step only)
• silence notifications
• slow your pace (move like you have time)

2) Add warmth (soothing + safety cues):
• longer exhale than inhale x3
• feet press into the ground 10 seconds
• hand to chest or belly (gentle pressure)
• warm drink / shower
• supportive voice: “I’m safe enough right now.”

If you keep “failing” at regulation, you may not need more discipline.
You may need better temperature control.

Your nervous system doesn’t wake up thinking, “How can we thrive today?”
It wakes up asking, “How do we stay safe?”

After trauma, safety strategies can look like procrastination, control, shutdown, overexplaining, or staying ready for the next problem. That doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your body learned patterns that once protected you.

Healing isn’t about forcing your way into change. It’s about teaching your body—through repetition—that you’re safe enough now to try something different.

This week, choose one predictable anchor and repeat it daily. Tiny, consistent safety signals are how your nervous system updates.

Save this. Share it with someone who mistakes protection for “failure.”

If you overtalk: your body is seeking control.”
Try: sip water + slow your pace + one sentence at a time.

“If you go quiet: shutdown is protection.”
Try: “I need 5 minutes. I’m not ignoring you.”

“If you scroll/clean: your system wants regulation through distraction/control.”
Try: 2-minute timer + return to body (feet + exhale).

“If you pick fights: protest for connection.”
If you numb: overload.
Try: “I need reassurance” OR “I need low stimulation.”

Trauma therapy terms can feel like subtitles to a movie you didn’t audition for.

We say: “window of tolerance.”
We mean: “the range where you can feel AND think without your body hitting the alarm.”

We say: “rupture and repair.”
We mean: “the moment you disconnect… and the skill of coming back.”

If any of these words have ever made you feel exposed, broken, or confused—this is for you.
You’re not “overreacting.” Your body is protecting you.

Here I am thinking again...I am looking to chat with you who are GRADUATE INTERNS who have placement for your sites and those who do not have sites yet to see what tools you need to get ready for placement or to just not freak out about being in practicum and internship.
