This is copied from another page, but this helps you understand why I'm choosing to be cash based. The insurance company rarely has the patient's interest in mind. All they care about is their bottom line and the crazy executive bonuses and vacations.
"This is exactly what it is like to work with health insurance companies. It's why there are so few small, private practice health care providers and why many of the best providers out there don't take insurance.
Imagine working 50+ hours a week, including many hours that are not billable. Each month, you submit your hours to your employer and aren't sure how many of them will actually be paid. It could be all the hours or no hours. Each month is different, despite what your contract says. Sometimes, you have to submit your hours multiple times and send letters and proof that you did the work because your employer doesn't believe you. Even so, they frequently decide to just not pay, and there is little you can do.
Then, in January of every year, your employer might decide you need to pay back thousands of dollars they previously paid you because they made a mistake. So once again, you have to write letters and send proof of the work you did."
Cash based is also great because YOUR plan of care is decided by me, the healthcare professional along with you, the patient.
