⚠️ Public Information Notice – Venomous Cobra ⚠️

Last week, City of Wichita Falls Animal Control was called by the Wichita Falls Police Department to assist with animals at a residence. When officers arrived, they discovered a cobra contained inside a container within the home.

The snake was safely contained at the time of pickup and, to our knowledge, was never loose or a danger to citizens in the community.

Animal Control officers safely transported the cobra to Wichita Falls Animal Services, and arrangements were made for the snake to be transferred to a facility equipped to properly care for venomous reptiles.

This situation also serves as an important reminder that keeping venomous reptiles within Wichita Falls city limits is illegal under Municipal Code 14-8. The ordinance states that it is unlawful for any person to breed, raise, keep, or possess any venomous reptile within the city, except when kept by a permitted educational or scientific institution subject to approval and inspection.

City ordinances regarding wildlife are in place to help protect the public, first responders, and animal control personnel.
