Thawing and warming breastmilk for your baby is so easy!🍼

You can take out your frozen bags of milk that you will need for the following day and let them thaw out in your refrigerator overnight OR you can place them directly into a bowl of warm water. Easy peasy!

You just need warm tapwater and a container that will fit either your bag of milk or bottle of milk.

When I am reheating a bottle of milk, I love to use our yeti coffee cup. If your baby prefers their milk a little warmer than room temp you can always replace the warm water after the milk has thawed and give it a couple more minutes.

Just remember once milk is thawed it needs to be used within 24 hours. Never refreeze once fully thawed‼️

If baby does not finish their bottle CDC guidelines state you have 2hrs to offer it again before discarding. However, there is a new information stating it can go longer up to 8hrs room temp for full term healthy infants.

Check out CDC Guidelines and the new study on human milk guidelines below!👇🏼

People often think Lactation Consultants just help with feeding struggles. What we do is so much deeper than infant feeding alone.
We connect with our families on a whole new level. We create a safe space where moms can feel seen and heard. We provide gentle guidance and education through murky waters. We help shine a line during some families darkest times. We dig deeper into both mom and baby’s well being because it’s not just one size fits all.
What an honor it is to be able to create and hold that space for a family that they not only choose you once but for their subsequent babies too.
Getting to welcome this baby earth side while her sister ran around making snacks and washing her hands like a big was a huge reminder of how special my job is.
If you are feeling lost or just unsure let’s work together. I want to be that person in your corner. Send me a message or comment support below.🫶🏼

Weighted feedings are becoming such a hot topic on social media and I’m seeing lots of moms buying scales on Amazon trying to replicate this at home.

I find this is a great tool when assessing transfer issues, however, I do think this should be done under the guidance of an IBCLC. There is so much that goes into play with your babies ability to transfer milk and every feeding can be vastly different. We don’t just look at the number on the scale to determine how infant is feeding.

If you’re struggling please don’t go buy a scale and stress yourself out even more. Breastfeeding isn’t a walk in the park but you don’t have to go through it alone or without the power of knowledge. Reach out and let us help you. Motherhood is already stressful enough. 👶🏻🤰

I have very limited time slots while my boy is still little. I already have some Prenatal’s scheduled for May/June! If you’re wanting to get on my schedule message me.

Remember, lactation care is preventative care not just emergent care. You deserve to feel confident and prepared no matter how you decide to feed your baby.🫶🏼

Caffeine and breastfeeding!!

Drinking caffeine while breast-feeding is generally considered safe for mothers who consume around 200 to 300 mg a day.

Studies show caffeine does pass into the breastmilk but at low rates around 1.5%. Caffeine peaks in breastmilk around 60 to 120 minutes so trying to time feeds around caffeine exposure can be helpful. However, everyone’s rate of metabolism is different so this timing can vary.

The main thing to watch for when drinking caffeine is infant irritability, extra fussing, tremors, poor sleep or poor weight gain. If you have a pre-term infant, you should try to limit caffeine.

As always, if you’re unsure, reach out and ask a lactation consultant or download the MommyMeds app.🫶🏼☕️

The other day I pumped after feeding my son at 8pm in preparation for going to work the next day. I got a little under 3 ounces combined. Despite that being such an amazing amount, I instantly felt panicked.
So the next morning, I fed my baby before we left and threw my pump on for my drive to work. I got 2 ounces total. I again began to panic.
That same day, I went to work and pumped right at my three hour mark. This is where I got 5 ounces and I felt so proud when in reality I should’ve been proud instead of panicked the entire time. Social media doesn’t show us the norm in breast-feeding and kind of has us brainwashed on what normal is.
So here’s your reminder that after feeding your baby it is amazing to get anywhere from half an ounce to 2 ounces of milk!
If you’re needing a stash to feed your baby during periods of separation it’s best to pump one time a day for 10 minutes after a feeding, preferably in the morning.
If you’re still struggling, reach out to me. I specialize in low milk supply and I would love to get you feeling confident again.🫶🏼

I’m sorry, but I have to rant. Someone needs to say it.

If someone is venting to you or confiding in you and your first words out of your mouth is “well at least” you need to take a moment to think about how that would make you feel.

When we say “well at least” we are completely diminishing that person’s feelings. This is so common in so many areas of life. This doesn’t even have anything to do with breast-feeding just straight up compassion for other humans.

If you are guilty of this, that’s okay, but I hope you will try to reword your response a little better in the future after watching this.

We don’t always have to see eye to eye with everyone and you don’t have to agree with them either. You can still validate someone’s feelings and have a different opinion. Sometimes inside thoughts are not meant to be outside words.

That’s all. 😅🫶🏼

If you know you know.😂♥️

When I brought my son home from the hospital I tried swaddling and placing him in his bassinet. It would take an hour of back and forth to get less than an hour of sleep before he woke up crying. One night I thought to myself, why am I fighting so hard what my baby is wired to do? So we chose safe co-sleeping and now here we are 4.5 months later! My b***y baby is taking solo naps anywhere from 30min to 2hrs. I am extremely proud of that. I believe babies will sleep longer when they are neurologically ready too and that looks different for everyone.

Skin-to-skin contact regulates a newborn’s physiological functions by stabilizing their body temperature, heart rate, and breathing. It reduces stress (cortisol levels), lowers blood pressure, stabilizes blood sugar, promotes deeper, longer sleep, and triggers natural breastfeeding behaviors. It also aids in developing a healthy, protective immune system.

Skin to skin and being near our babies for responsive care has so many benefits yet they need to be swaddled and placed in a bassinet away from me.

Safe sleep is swaddling our babies and aiding them into a deep sleep aiming for 4-5hrs sometimes even longer stretches away from mom to protect them from SIDS. Yet studies show deep sleep and overheating is often when infants die from SIDS.

I was listening to advice that felt so back and forth.

Sometimes the information we are given as parents can see so overwhelming and conflicting. Every parent has a choice to make informed decisions about how they raise their child. At the end of the day, we all want what’s best for our babies. That may look different from another family, that’s okay.

Informed decisions making with all the options is what you deserve. There are ways to safely co sleep. There are ways to safely sleep in a bassinet. I am here to give you the education you need on all things mother hood so you can make the best informed decision for your family.

Message me today to schedule your consult. 🫶🏼
