🏃‍♀️ Walk a different way!

When working with people on plans to manage anxiety and depression, exercise is always put on the list. Most people like to include a walk as a great way to help maintain good mental health.

An article I read in “Breathe” magazine discusses the benefit of “conscious movement” as a way to add even more benefit to your walk. 🍃 💨

Conscious, or purposeful movement, during a walk would start with breathing deeply, beginning to put your focus outside of your own thoughts. Notice each step you take, the movement of your legs, the bending of your knees and how your muscles are feeling. Then shift your awareness to the sights and sounds around you including smells and feels, the breeze, the colors, acknowledging, then letting go. Eventually go back to the physical sensations of your stride, to your feelings mentally and back to your breathing. Acknowledge what has changed, then let go.

You will end your walk feeling strong, empowered and invigorated and hopefully anxiety free! ✨

👉What talk therapy is and is not:

If most of my clients could not already tell you, after a few sessions, I believe they CAN tell you what talk therapy, or psychotherapy, IS and IS NOT. I recently had a conversation with a young client who enthusiastically described his therapy as often feeling like a conversation, but knowing it is much more. He knows that there is purpose in the processing as we work through a topic. ✨

There is a difference between a conversation guided by a trained therapist and a heartfelt well-meant conversation with a friend or family member. Although both are good, the first can actually be effective in rewiring our brain. 🧠 When specific approaches are used, the structure of the brain is made stronger and emotional distress is reduced. 😊 Sometimes hearing yourself verbalize something in the right way can actually be just what you need. Talk therapy is not a venting session. It is talking with purpose and processing with every word spoken…and maybe it will feel like just a conversation. 🪴

✨ You might think my clients are people who have lost hope. And at first, yes, even they would believe they are hopeless, but they are there in therapy, wanting to make change in their life. Somewhere inside there is hope. As they come week after week, their hope usually grows, as they see progress. They surprise themselves with the hope they find when they begin with just one glimmer that they didn’t realize was there. 🌟

Most of us have that glimmer deep inside even when we don’t feel it…we set an alarm each night for the day to come, we make big plans, we marry, have children. This is hope! We all feel hopeless sometimes, but don’t forget to look for your glimmer. ✨ 💫 I’ll bet you set your alarm tonight! Have a great day! 💛

What I Learned at Work Wednesday

What I learned this week is about the human desire to heal, to grow and to thrive. 🌱

I have truly been amazed by and sometimes brought to tears, to have the absolute privilege and honor to be there with clients as they allow themselves to discover what is waiting to heal, grow and thrive within themselves. 🪷

Going with another person to discover a life-changing insight is, well, I’d say better than discovering a planet or getting a deal on shark tank! ✨There is nothing more beautiful than the human spirit, and I learn every day that working with that is still the right job for me! 🌿

📣🌟Ladies: I’m thinking about putting together an online group. I’ve done this before with the topic of “loneliness throughout the stages of women’s lives”, which was so interesting and very beneficial, but I’m open to other topics, like grief, anxiety, etc., so ideas are welcome and you are welcome too! If anyone is interested in meeting with other women to discuss a common struggle and in the process grow and heal, as well, please message me! Since I’m just putting this out, I’m sure the group will be very small. I look forward to your input! Please pass on the word to anyone you think might be interested. Thanks in advance!!🙌
