Did you know 54% of team members reported experiencing some level of quiet cracking?
This is not quiet quitting, when staff deliberately reduce their efforts on projects. It's staff who maintain performance metrics, but are extremely unhappy and mentally detached. They feel undervalued, unappreciated, and/or stuck.
What should you do as a team leader? Here are our suggestions:
- Cut 20%: Take time with staff members. Critically review projects/tasks and remove 20% of their low-impact work. Do these items really need to be done? Can they wait until larger, more impactful projects are completed?
- Pump Up Check-ins: Ask your staff at least once per day – do they need anything – questions, comments, suggestions. Focus on clarity and workload.
- Positive Coaching: Create a culture where mistakes or missing the mark on projects are met with coaching rather than penalties. You'll prevent fear-based isolation that leads to cracking.
