It's Flashback Friday at Kansas Masonic Home!

Did you know? In 2013, The 44,000 square foot, 20 suite Rapid Recovery Suites opened; offering the most advanced resources and technology in a household environment to short term stay, therapy and rehabilitation residents.

During that same year, the KMH Towers remodel was completed. The extensive remodel included the addition of a pub-style area with a completely restored, early 1900's bar; new dining room, family rooms on each floor as well as new landscaping and furnishings. Formerly an independent living area, the Towers now featured newly remodeled assisted living apartments, ranging from one bedroom to two bedroom/two bath.

Then in 2015, a $22 million expansion and renovation was completed, and in 2016, Kansas Masonic Home received "Member of the Year Award" from LeadingAge Kansas.

It's Flashback Friday at Kansas Masonic Home!

Did you know? In 1999, The Kenneth L. Calwell Assisted Living Manor was opened. The three story, 60 apartment complex offers residents licensed staff for nursing, social work, therapy and dietary needs as well as 24 hour security, medical transportation and meals, housekeeping, social opportunities and the community lifestyle was enjoyed throughout the campus.

Then in 2009, KMH began a "Culture Change" initiative to create a homelike environment. In 2010, staff and residents joined together to tear down the nurses stations in the Health Care Pavilion. The stations "stood as a literal barrier between residents and staff" said Pavilion Administrator, Matthew Bogner. The demolition was the first physical change towards making KMH truly home for residents. During that same year, Kansas Masonic Home earned the coveted “PEAK” Award from the Kansas Department on Aging. PEAK stands for Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas Nursing Homes.

It's easy to make new friends at Kansas Masonic Home. There is always an abundance of activities, social opportunities and outings scheduled on the calendar. Residents can also gather in our pub-style lounge with a fully restored turn-of-the-century bar to relax or play billiards. Affordable senior living doesn’t mean the fun stops. In 1981, the new Health Care Center opened. "It was considered the best in geriatric medicine for skilled nursing care and residential housing in the state of Kansas," said Anna Mae Bradshaw, former Historian for the Grand Chapter of Kansas, O.E.S.

By 1984, KMH opened to the public for the first time in its history. KMH leadership made this difficult decision in order to remain financially viable. Medicaid and Medicare became available to KMH at this time.

Then in 1989, the Health Care Center was dedicated as the "S. Allan Daugherty Medical Pavilion." Daugherty served as a KMH Administrator from 1958 to 1978, which is the longest tenure in the history of KMH.

It's Flashback Friday at Kansas Masonic Home!

Did you know?
In 1956, a new infirmary was completed at KMH. Then in 1959, for the first time in the sixty years of KMH's existence, there were no more children in residence. During that time, they now had more than 300 residents with an average age of 85. Senior care became the greatest need and the focus of the staff, board of directors and supporters. 25 nurses lived on campus in the former girls' dormitory (located north of the chapel).

By 1962, 245 women and 80 men were residents of KMH. The grounds included 13 major buildings,1300 meals were served daily and two beauty shops operated on campus. In 1975, KMH hosted a children's reunion for those that grew up here. The group was featured in the Wichita Eagle!
