What about Roblox?

I am asked quite a bit what I think of the Roblox application. I have three grand-kids who play this game so I am very familiar with it.

Unfortunately I have been to more than a few service calls where a young child was friended and coached into n**e photos or money transactions of some type. (kids can not send pictures of themselves on the Roblox application so they are usually coached into using a different application such as Kik, Whatsapp, Tango, or Snapchat).

Good: Roblox has countless applications within the application that allow kids to learn many different skills such as math, budgeting, bill paying, and much more. The game encourages kids to be creative in many different ways and can be very educational.

Not so good:

1) Roblox has a chat feature which allows predators to friend your kids. Unfortunately there are thousands of predators who take advantage of the chat feature to prey on young kids as they are very impressionable and generally easy targets. I have personally arrested 30 year old plus internet predators and found that they had multiple Roblox accounts for the specific purpose of chatting with kids under the age of 10. The chat feature can be turned off but is rarely done as parents don't realize how many internet predators are actually hunting their kids at any given time.

2) Roblox has some pay features that you buy with Robucks which can be earned through game-play or bought with actual money. This becomes a problem in some homes as kids will steal their parents credit card information to buy more robucks.

3) This is a very addicting game for kids and will suck down days of their time if parents are not vigilant. It's like a gateway application into the applications that will addict your kids as they become teens.

My recommendation for allowing this game is to closely monitor screen time and the contact list of who your child is chatting with. I would not allow kids to play this without a parent within view of the game-play.
