APRIL IS WOMEN'S EYE HEALTH & SAFETY MONTH!

According to the Prevent Blindness organization, eye diseases occur more frequently in women than in men. Some of these eye diseases include age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eye, glaucoma, and thyroid eye disease. The American Academy of Ophthalmology says this is likely due to women having longer life expectancies. In order to help prevent these diseases, there are things women can do:

♀ Use sun protection! Wear sunglasses and hat to prevent sun damage to eyes
♀ Follow a healthy diet
♀ Exercise regularly
♀ Avoid smoking and second-hand smoke
♀ Be aware of family history of disease
♀ Most importantly, get your annual eye exam. When caught early, these diseases can be prevented or mitigated. Call 316-721-8877 to schedule one with us today!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

As we get ready to close out Brain Injury Awareness Month, I thought it would be nice to re-share our video from World Su***de Prevention Day. These don't sound related, but a brain injury doesn't just affect your vision. Your brain is you, it is what makes you who you are. If it is injured, it's easy to not feel like yourself and development suicidal thoughts and ideations. This is made even worse when the injury isn't easily seen by the people around you, leading you to feel invalidated and alone.

Check in with the people in your life who have suffered brain injuries. If YOU have suffered a brain injury, check in with yourself and seek help. You aren't alone.

While it is important to work together with your primary care physician and your neurologist, you may be surprised how much your optometrist or ophthalmologist can help. Some symptoms caused by a brain injury can be greatly improved by things like bifocals, added prism to your lenses, and vision therapy. Call us today to find out how we can help. 316-722-3740
