Check out this article by Communication Community. Five tips for parents and caregivers to best support their children using AAC.
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication; any form of communication other than speech that helps someone express themselves.
Many people think of AAC as a speech tablet, but it can also include sign language, picture books, gestures, or other tools. When speech alone is not enough to help a child share their wants, needs, or thoughts, AAC bridges that gap, especially as they grow and begin communicating more in their daily lives.

Susan and Delane met while attending college at FHSU. Years later, they worked together at a hospital in Wichita, that is when idea of starting a private practice together was formed. Both grew up in small, rural towns and shared important characteristics such as work ethic, friendliness and compassion.
The Speech, Swallowing and Voice Center was started in 2009. Susan and Delane are extremely proud of how they and their team of SLP's have helped so many patients. The clinic has continued to grow. The expansion to the East side was Susan's vision to help serve Wichita, and the surrounding areas. The SSV Center now has clinics in east and west Wichita; each with a full team of therapists and serving all ages, infants to adults!
Susan and Delane are responsible for bringing the portable FEES to the Wichita area in 2009. They continue to grow this service and love providing this specialized dysphagia assessment for numerous facilities and fellow SLP's. In addition, the SSV Center contracts with smaller hospitals to provide PRN Speech Therapy. Working in these smaller, rural settings is rewarding and fun for Susan and Delane.
As small business owners, Susan and Delane take great pride and responsibility in hiring therapists who will help the patients improve to their highest potential.
