MSSC is honoring its first Black male and female members as part of . G.G. Brown, MD, joined MSSC in 1909, just six years after MSSC was founded. His son, Val Brown, MD, was also an MSSC member, as is his grandson Val Brown, Jr., MD. Gloria D. Sanders, MD, joined MSSC in 1979 and was an MSSC board member for 2000-2002. She was a pathologist and served as medical director of the Riverside Hospital Laboratory.

The MSSC Board of Directors met today under the leadership of President Chady Sarraf, MD. Some of the issues discussed were the Kansas legislative session, an advocacy trip next week to Washington, D.C., and a physician leadership program MSSC is developing.

MSSC member Michael Wolfe, MD, is heading up a new maternal-fetal medicine clinic in Hutchinson, KSN TV reported. Ascension Via Christi teamed up with the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center to launch the clinic.

MSSC members Zachary Hanson, MD, with Advanced Orthopaedic Associates PA and Matthew Louis, MD, with Thrive Reconstructive Surgery were part of the medical team that operated this week on Alizeti, a two-year-old chimpanzee at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Alizeti severely injured her foot during an altercation with another chimpanzee. Her injury required amputation of a toe and reconstructive surgery, but she is expected to regain full use of her foot. Photos by Sedgwick County Zoo.
