When people compare costs for aging at home versus senior living, they often focus only on housing. But the full picture includes much more.

Home repairs, lawn care, rising utility costs, transportation, and in-home support add up quickly. Many senior living communities bundle housing, dining services, maintenance, transportation, and enrichment into one predictable monthly fee.

April is National Volunteer Month and we want to shine a spotlight on some of our amazing volunteers! 🌟

Meet Sharon – she has been volunteering painting nails for over 10 YEARS, even before she moved in with us in Independent Living. “Painting fingernails is an intimate thing,” says Sharon. “What I love about it is there isn’t a single person that after they get their nails done doesn’t feel better.” But it’s about way more than just the nails. “Along with the painting, you get a good chance to visit with people. Interaction is a big component to keeping healthy longer.”

Sharon encourages volunteering and said “This is what I tell myself and anyone else that will listen: When we get old, a lot of what we have left is time. It’s the greatest resource and we need to figure out what to do with it. In my opinion, it’s important to be a doer. Evaluate how you spend your time. Can you give just one hour? What difference could you make with it?”

Thank you Sharon! ❤️ If you’re interested in volunteering with Wichita Presbyterian Manor, visit our website to start your journey!

Age is the strongest known risk factor for dementia. While dementia is not a normal part of aging, the likelihood increases over time.

This is why regular medical conversations and awareness are so important.

Planning ahead often provides families with greater peace and more choices. PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®) communities are designed to support residents at every stage of life’s journey.

Meet Charlie!
Charlie came to WPM in February 2025 at the age of 82 following a pelvic fracture and additional health complications. He spent 10 days in our PATH unit focusing on healing and rebuilding his strength through both individual and group therapy sessions.
From day one, Charlie was determined to return home safely. Before discharge, our Aegis Therapies team completed a home visit with Charlie and his family to make sure everything was safe, accessible, and ready for his return.
Last week, Charlie stopped by to visit us and share how much he loved working with our therapy team and how grateful he was for the care he received during his PATH stay. Today, he proudly walks 10–12 blocks every day — a true testament to his dedication and the power of rehabilitation!
We are so proud of you, Charlie, and honored to have been part of your recovery journey.
