The week’s not over yet! Last but certainly not least… meet Olivia! ✨

She’s passionate about helping patients finally find relief from TMJ pain and sleep issues, and as a bilingual assistant, she’s able to connect with and support even more of our patients. Her experience has been such a blessing to our team, and she’s constantly sharing her knowledge and teaching even the seasoned members of our office something new every day.

Fun facts: she’s a mom of 4 boys and a proud grandma to 12 grandchildren ❤️, enjoys going to the gym, and unwinding with Netflix.

We’re so lucky to have you, Olivia! 🦷✨

✨We may not fill cavities, but we do fill lives with better sleep and healthier jaws!

Today we celebrate Dr. Mark McLaren, DDS, DABCP, DABDSM for Dentist Day!

While our office focuses on TMJ and sleep therapy rather than general dentistry, Dr. McLaren still deserves to be celebrated for the incredible work he does. Every day he helps patients get out of pain, sleep better, and feel like themselves again.

We’re grateful to have such a passionate doctor leading our team at TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Kansas.

The 2026 white paper update from the American Association of Orthodontists, published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, is an important and necessary document.

It rightly reinforces that:

Sleep disordered breathing is a medical diagnosis.
Orthodontics is not stand alone OSA treatment.
Imaging alone does not diagnose airway disease.
Prophylactic claims are not evidence based.

That clarity matters.

But as an ENT working closely with airway and growth, I think the bigger conversation is still evolving.

AHI is not the whole story.
Children with low AHI can still have significant neurocognitive impact.
Women can have flow limitation and autonomic disturbance without classic OSA patterns.
Nasal resistance influences craniofacial growth.
Growth influences airway stability.

The airway is not static. It develops. It adapts. It remodels.

Orthodontists see patients during the most critical years of craniofacial development. That is not a trivial window. It is biologically significant.

The absence of long term prevention trials does not mean craniofacial development is irrelevant to lifelong breathing health. It means we have not yet done the right longitudinal studies.

We should avoid overclaiming.

But we should also avoid underthinking.

The science is moving.
Our models need to move with it.

Let’s get to know Lance — our amazing Clinical Assistant!

Originally from a small town in Kentucky, Lance recently made the move to Wichita and brought three years of long-term care experience with him. He joined our team at TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Kansas to put his college knowledge to use, and he has been such a wonderful addition to our office!

Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his two cats, hiking and exploring new places (Utah’s views were a recent favorite!), and catching up on Big Brother.

We’re so lucky to have Lance on our team — be sure to say hello next time you’re in the office!

Even though we don’t practice general dentistry at TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Kansas, we are still SO excited to celebrate Dental Assistants Week! ✨

Our practice is focused exclusively on TMD and sleep-related breathing disorders — and our dental assistants are specially trained to support advanced diagnostics, orthotic therapy, PRF injections, CBCT imaging, and patient education. What they do is incredibly specialized, and we truly couldn’t provide the level of care we do without them.

This week, we’re celebrating our amazing team because:
-They calm nervous patients during complex TMJ evaluations
-They assist in life-changing sleep and airway treatments
-They bring compassion, organization, and positivity to our office every day

While we may not be a general dental office, our assistants play an essential role in transforming the lives of patients suffering from jaw pain and sleep issues — and that is absolutely worth celebrating.

Help us thank our incredible team this week!

At TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Kansas, we look at dental health a little differently — especially for kids.

While healthy teeth are important, we’re also focused on something even bigger: their airway and breathing.

-How your child breathes matters.
-Snoring is NOT normal in children.
-Mouth breathing can impact growth and development.
-Poor sleep can affect focus, mood, and behavior.

The way a child’s jaws and face develop plays a huge role in their airway health. Early signs like crowded teeth, grinding, snoring, bedwetting, dark circles under the eyes, or restless sleep may all point to airway concerns.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child’s snoring, mouth breathing, or sleep habits are “normal,” we’re here to help.

Healthy smiles start with a healthy airway. 💙
