Our Story
More than 25 years ago, a diagnosis of being HIV-positive meant a person may have a life expectancy of less than five years. Today, if a person is diagnosed early and diligent with taking their medicines, they may live a relatively healthy life ... at a significant financial cost.
HIV and AIDS treatments can cost more than $3,000 per month and many patients have additional health issues related to the disease that can add on to that amount. People are living much longer, creating an even greater need for the Sweet Emergency Fund.
Dr. Sweet and the staff at The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita Midtown Clinic go to great lengths to guarantee that their patients get quality health care, regardless of their ability to pay.
