As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re reminded that gratitude is more than a moment — it’s a practice. 🌿

In yoga philosophy, gratitude is woven into every breath, every pose, and every pause. It’s part of santosha — the practice of contentment — learning to find peace and appreciation in the present moment, just as it is.

On the mat, gratitude begins as a whisper:
🫶 “Thank you, body, for moving.”
💨 “Thank you, breath, for steadying me.”
💛 “Thank you, heart, for showing up.”

Today, we celebrate the quiet power of kindness — the gentle strength that connects us, heals us, and reminds us that we’re all in this together. 💛

In yoga, kindness (ahimsa) begins within — with how we speak to ourselves, how we move our bodies, and how we share space with others.
Each deep breath, each mindful moment, is a chance to practice compassion — both on and off the mat.

If you’ve ever heard yoga teachers mention things like Pranayama, Asana, or Dhyana — and thought, “Wait… what does that mean?” — you’re not alone! 💛

Yoga’s language comes from Sanskrit — an ancient and beautiful way of describing how we connect body, mind, and spirit.
But here’s the good news: you don’t need to know all the words to feel the meaning.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga are simply a guide for living with more awareness, peace, and balance — on and off the mat. 🌿
Each class you take, each breath you focus on, each moment of stillness — it’s all yoga in motion.

🧘‍♂️ Rest, Restore, Renew

This Veterans Day, we honor those who’ve served — and we hold space for the healing that follows service.

Restorative and Yin Yoga offer powerful tools for veterans and first responders to help release tension, improve sleep, and reconnect to the calm within. Through slow, supported postures and mindful breathing, these practices activate the body’s relaxation response — helping ease stress, anxiety, and the lingering effects of trauma. 🌿

Here, our instructor Wendy — a retired detective and proud military spouse — guides from lived experience, blending compassion and expertise to help every student find stillness and strength.

At Unity Studio Yoga, we believe healing begins with breath, presence, and community.

Today, we honor Indra Devi (1899–2002) — often called “The Mother of Western Yoga.” 🧘‍♀️

Born in Latvia as Eugenie Peterson, Indra Devi’s path was truly ahead of her time. She became one of the first Western women to study under Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, the legendary yoga teacher in India who also taught B.K.S. Iyengar and K. Pattabhi Jois.

In 1947, she opened the first yoga studio in Hollywood, introducing yoga to the West long before it was mainstream. Her students included stars like Greta Garbo and Gloria Swanson — but her mission was always deeper:

To make yoga accessible to everyone — no matter their age, background, or body.

Her gentle approach to breath, movement, and presence helped bridge the gap between East and West, planting the seeds for the global yoga community we cherish today. 🌏💫

So today, we roll out our mats in gratitude for the woman who helped yoga travel across oceans and into our hearts.
