Thank you to Sedgwick County Government for its leadership of our local disability services system!

Sedgwick County recognizes that people with disabilities have always been, and always will be a strong and valued part of our community. 💙

Yesterday, the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners declared March 2026 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This encourages employers and community members to help break down barriers and create opportunities for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. We are thankful for our Department of Aging and Disabilities and community partners who work to promote accessibility, inclusion and meaningful employment so we can help people with disabilities thrive.

Mark's parents recently moved into a skilled nursing facility after his dad had a stroke. A variety of health struggles had prevented them from getting fully settled, but once they were, Starkey employees arranged for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and transported Mark to their new home for a visit. They were able to spend time together and play bingo. Knowing Mark, he may have sung them a few of his favorite songs as well!

We love to visit the Pizza Hut Museum on the Wichita State University campus, which features memorabilia from the first Pizza Hut at Kellogg and Bluff in Wichita, opened in 1958 by WSU alumni Dan and Frank Carney. It has a tactile library and a selfie station with “Pizza Pete,” the restaurant’s famous mascot. 🍕

Individuals in our Gateway and Life Enrichment programs deliver around 60 meals each day through Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita's Meals on Wheels program. They have developed deep connections with the people they visit.

“I think it’s important for them to give back to the community. That’s a vital part of their growth, learning how to help others who are in need,” said Kary Wade, Director of the Gateway Program. “But the key thing is, these are the delivery routes we have served for many years, and these citizens are expecting us to show up and looking forward to the individuals they get to see. It's all about building relationships."

We took in the "Symbols of Greatness" faculty exhibition at the Ulrich Museum of Art, which features ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and more. This time of year, we enjoy indoor art, but it will soon be time to visit the museum's outdoor sculpture garden too!
