Monday, November 24 11-12 MST

Even if you don't specialize in eating disorders or body image, it's impossible to do therapy without talking about bodies at some point. Many therapists inadvertently cause harm in this area due to applying common ideas about food, exercise, and body size, without realizing that most of these ideas are outdated, not supported by research, and actively harmful to clients.

This presentation explores the unique challenges and opportunities in establishing strong therapeutic relationships with men who have left the LDS Church. It examines the cultural and religious context shaping their experiences, discusses the common emotional and psychological impacts of faith transitions—including societal pressures on men regarding vulnerability—and identifies specific strategies for building trust and effective interventions.

Marc Oslund, LCSW, M.Ed. is the owner of Guest House Therapy in Provo, UT. He is a former All-American baseball player and seminary teacher. He specializes in working with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, scrupulosity, and men and teenagers seeking therapy for the first time. This workshop provides practical tools and insights for clinicians working with this population. Presentation Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to identify at least three key cultural and religious factors that influence the experiences of former Mormon men.

We've got one more week until our 12th annual conference!

I'm really excited about the theme (Resistance, Resilience & Restoration) and the many presenters sharing their brilliance with us.

Please share with any mental health clinicians, students & engaged community members who care about the intersections of faith, identity and mental health. Participation is in-person and virtual at the Olpin Student Union at The University of Utah.

We are partnered with Sunstone's annual conference.
