We’re so proud of Abby Jones, who appeared live on air this week to break down what really happens in our brains during the holiday shopping rush.

She explained how retailers tap into urgency and scarcity—creating those “act now!” dopamine hits that can lead many people to overspend. (In fact, 90% of Americans report spending about $3,000 more than intended during the holidays!)

Abby offered simple, grounding strategies to slow down and shop mindfully:
✨ Pause before you purchase
✨ Use a 24-hour rule
✨ Remove saved cards from your phone to reduce impulse spending
✨ Limit open tabs
✨ Notice why you’re shopping—are you coping or avoiding?
✨ Practice gratitude for what you already have

And her favorite reminder:
💛 “The reason for the season is connection, not consumption.”

Abby also shared how Meadows Behavioral Healthcare supports people nationwide who may be struggling with the deeper emotional patterns, like shame and scarcity, that fuel overconsumption.

We’re grateful for her expertise and the light she brings to conversations about mental and emotional wellness this time of year.

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Veterans: Supporting Those Who Served

This week, our very own Bill Reynolds, PA-C, Psychiatry CAQ, joined Your Life Arizona to discuss an important Veterans Day topic, how to help veterans facing addiction and PTSD.

With Veterans Day reminding us of the courage and sacrifice of those who’ve served, Bill shared expert insight into the challenges many veterans face after leaving the military, from PTSD and depression to substance use and the often-difficult transition to civilian life.

💬 Key Takeaways from the Segment:
🔹 Unique Risks for Veterans: Military service can expose individuals to intense, high-stress experiences that are difficult to process afterward. These experiences, combined with physical injuries or chronic pain, can lead some to turn to substances as a way to cope, not out of weakness, but as a survival response.
🔹 Integrated Treatment: Addiction and PTSD are often intertwined. Effective care means treating both, the trauma and the addiction, through trauma-informed approaches like EMDR, somatic therapy, CBT, and group support.
🔹 Power of Connection: Healing happens in community. When veterans connect with others who understand their experiences, trust builds, and recovery deepens.
🔹 Family Support Matters: Listening without judgment and encouraging professional help are key. Healing truly is a team effort.

We’re proud of Bill for sharing his expertise and continuing the conversation around how we can all support veterans in their recovery and healing. 💙

🇺🇸 “Asking for help is an absolute strength.”

Erie Hebert, Senior Director of Meadows Outpatient Services for Austin and Houston, and a proud U.S. Army veteran, shares a powerful reminder this Veterans & Military Families Month.

After serving 10 years, both enlisted and as an officer, Erie knows firsthand how the transition from military to civilian life can challenge one’s sense of identity and purpose.

He reminds fellow veterans that the world waiting beyond service depends on purpose, energy, and the willingness to keep refining who you are.

Many service members are taught to be warriors, to push through and handle everything alone. But as Erie shares, asking for help isn’t a weakness; it’s one of the strongest, most courageous choices you can make.

Because every veteran deserves more than just to hang up their hat at the end of the day. 💙

🐴✨ Meet the healing power of the herd.

At The Meadows, our Equine Therapy Program isn’t about riding, it’s about being present, building trust, and engaging with something meaningful beyond words.

In sessions guided by licensed therapists alongside equine specialists, our horses reflect emotions, mirror our moods, and offer a safe, non‑judgmental space for growth and healing.

From grooming and obstacle work to gentle moments of connection, participants explore emotional awareness, resilience and change through unique interactions with these incredible animals.

Whether you or a loved one is navigating recovery, trauma, or a desire for something different, this is one of the many paths available at The Meadows. Because healing can come in quiet moments of trust, eye‑to‑eye with a horse. 🐎 https://hubs.la/Q03RGB530
