Dr. Haylie Reed performed the Coast region’s first DETOUR procedure, a minimally invasive technique that creates a new pathway around a blocked artery by temporarily routing blood through the vein and back into the artery. It offers new hope for patients with long, complex blockages who may not be candidates for traditional surgery.

By completing this milestone, Dr. Reed also became the first female surgeon in Mississippi to perform the procedure, a powerful step forward for vascular care in our state.

Help us celebrate this achievement and the impact it will have on patients right here at home.

Behind every patient’s care is a team making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

At Memorial, our Care Coordination and Social Work teams are here to guide patients every step of the way, from discharge planning to connecting them with the resources they need beyond our hospital walls. Whether it’s coordinating care, supporting families, or helping navigate real-life challenges like transportation, housing, or medication access, their work plays a vital role in every patient’s journey.

“What makes our department so strong is our people,” shared Cindy Johnson, System Director of Case Management. “Our teams in Gulfport and Biloxi truly care. They support each other, our patients, and their families with compassion and respect.”

Through collaboration with our Memorial Foundation and Auxiliary, this team helps remove barriers and ensures every care plan is not just clinically sound, but realistic for each patient’s life.

Because at Memorial, care doesn’t stop at discharge. It continues with support, connection, and compassion.

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury for adults over 65, but many falls can be prevented with the right support and care.

A fall risk check helps identify factors that could increase your chances of falling and gives your care team the opportunity to create a plan to keep you safe and active.

You may benefit from a fall risk assessment if you:

• Feel unsteady when walking
• Take four or more medications that may affect balance or blood pressure
• Avoid going out or doing activities because you’re worried about falling

During a fall risk check, your provider may evaluate your balance, strength, medications, vision, and home safety to help reduce your risk and improve confidence when moving throughout your day.

The goal isn’t just preventing falls.
It’s helping you stay independent, active, and confident in every chapter of life.

If any of these signs sound familiar, talk with your provider about a fall risk assessment and steps you can take to stay safe.

🌼March Daisy Award Honoree - Debra West, RN 🌼

“I would like to nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary care she provided to my son, Brett, during his time in the ICU room 23. From the moment she stepped into his room, it was clear that her experience, skill, and compassion were exceptional. This nurse kept Brett stable during some very difficult moments. She acted quickly and confidently whenever the alarms sounded, responding with a calm urgency that reassured both him and myself (Mom). Her expertise was obvious in every action she took, and her presence brought me comfort during an incredibly stressful time.

Beyond her clinical skill, this nurse showed genuine kindness. She spoke to Brett with patience, explained what she was doing, and made sure he was as comfortable as possible. Her care made a meaningful difference in his ICU stay, and I am deeply grateful for everything she did. This nurse is a remarkable nurse, and she embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award in every way.”

Thank you, Debra, for the exceptional care you provide our community!
