Ferritin is your body’s stored iron🩸
A simple way to explain it:
→ Ferritin = storage (your reserve tank)
→ Serum iron = what’s circulating right now (what you’re actively using)
So you can technically have “normal” circulating iron but still feel awful if your ferritin (your reserves) is low — because your body doesn’t have much backup. So when iron stores are low, your body shifts into survival mode. Not thriving mode.
That means it will prioritize basic function over things like:
→ hormone balance
→ thyroid function
→ hair growth
→ energy
But here’s where it gets even more important…
Ferritin is an acute phase reactant
👉 meaning it goes up with inflammation
So a “normal” — or even high — ferritin does NOT always mean your iron status is optimal.
And yes…
Iron deficiency can exist with or without anemia
So if you’ve been told:
“Your hemoglobin is normal, you’re fine”
…but you’re dealing with:
→ exhaustion
→ hair loss
→ heart palpitations
→ feeling off despite “normal” labs
It’s time to look deeper 🔍
This is exactly the kind of root-cause work we do at Restore Health + Wellness.
✨ Your labs should match how you feel — not dismiss it
