Are YOU a “Ho-Hummer?”
Let’s be honest, life can be overwhelmingly difficult at times. The circumstances of life (families, jobs, health, neighbors, finances, etc.) can at times or consistently, leave us in a mental place where we develop the attitude of, “is it even worth it?”, AKA a “ho-hum” mentality.
I’ve witnessed this attitude, at times, in myself when life became too much. I wanted to curl up into a ball & hide myself from people, not pursuing the path on which I was destined to follow.
For some, you live in this state of mind continuously. It is a trap.
You harm yourself by not escaping this trap. You may ask, how so?
The creator of all things & through who whom all things originated (God/Christ), created each of us individually for a purpose(s) to glorify Him and save people from themselves. God loves you whether you believe so or not. We are to bear fruit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, self-control, etc. We are to love one another and treat people the way we wish to be treated. We are to open our hearts to receive mercy & grace from Him and maintain a personal relationship with Him. If we selfishly are “ho-humming” our way through life, we miss out on the blessing of God on our lives, since our hearts are not open to receiving all He has to offer.
During this holiday season and as we begin a new year, starting with myself, let’s take our focus of our own problems, instead, looking to someone else whom we may be able to help. Christ died on the cross for all of us. He could’ve chosen the “ho-hum” approach, but instead, saw you and me as lost, needy, and desperate (sheep without a shepherd), needing a Savior from ourselves. Therefore, Jesus left heaven, came to earth in human form, and took the punishment for your sins and my sins. He gave His life, so that you and I can receive & inherit eternal life.
None of us are perfect, but we can CHOOSE to give & bless others rather than solely focus on ourselves. As we do this, we become less of a “ho-hummer.”
As the Bible states, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.” When you give to someone else and you see as a result the recipient’s life improve because of what you gave, you receive a deep sense of fulfillment that no material object you would receive can offer.
So, I challenge you who read this. Stop being a “ho-hummer.” Pick yourselves up, dust yourselves off, take your eyes off yourselves, choose to discover where you can serve and bless other people, and be thankful for every gift and blessing you have been given (you do have a few for those who don’t think so – you’re breathing right now as you read this).
In Christ!
