The Christine Center

The Christine Center The Christine Center is a spirituality center offering solo and group retreats in a wooded sanctuary. The Christine Center was established in the lineage of St.
(1)

Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, and embraces persons of all spiritual paths. Organizations, individuals, groups, teachers, and students are invited to share the energy of this sacred space. The Center offers lodging and meals for individual retreats, group retreats, seminars and sabbatical stays. You’re also welcome to have your day meeting or overnight gathering of your small faith community, hospital, church, educational or management group at the Center. Situated in a tranquil forest setting with guest house, hermitages (small cabins), and camping on 125 secluded acres, the Christine Center has served the spiritual needs of thousands of people from all over the world for almost thirty years. You’re invited to partake of its silence and beauty, and to participate in its opportunities for personal spiritual deepening and global transformation. Spiritual seekers are drawn to The Christine Center by the activities of a vibrant community, prayer, contemplation and work. The Center offers retreats on spirituality, transformational change and inner development. It hosts a diverse and wide range of workshops and retreat programs. As a Catholic retreat center, it welcomes opportunities to engage in dialogue with teachers and seekers of many spiritual paths. The Center also offers services such as spiritual guidance, bodywork, and recreational activities which can supplement your reflection and relaxation. A supportive, natural environment provides you with the ambience for a contemplative practice, creativity, or nurturing the Spirit within. Many come to explore inner awakening, holistic living and honesty in relationships. Out of this energy the Christine Center offers its signature program “Spiritual Deepening for Global Transformation.”

Imbolc arrives quietly. Midwinter stirs with the promise of light. Beneath the snow, seeds are whispering: renewal is already on its way.

This threshold invites us to notice the first, subtle turnings toward spring – and the small signs of renewal within our own lives.

What tender beginnings are stirring in you right now?
May you trust what is quietly unfolding within you, even if you cannot see it yet.

Meet Chris!

We’re happy to introduce Chris, one of the newest members of our kitchen team.

Chris was drawn to the Christine Center because of our Franciscan roots. He shares that his journey here is deeply personal – seven years ago, he was in a serious car accident and placed on life support. After briefly passing away when medical support was removed, he awoke from a coma with a newfound zest for life.

Chris says, “I have always enjoyed cooking and feeding others, and now I feel called to do so as a way to glorify God. Cooking is also how I stay grounded and centered. I find joy in taking a variety of ingredients and transforming them into art.”

We’re grateful for the care and hospitality he brings to every meal served at the Christine Center. If you see him on campus, feel free to say hello and welcome him!

Hermitage Spotlight: Portiuncula 🌲❄️

Nestled between our Remembrance Garden and Mary’s Villa, and just a serene walk from Wedges Creek, Portiuncula is a spacious, rustic hermitage that offers a quiet refuge.

Newly remodeled by our dedicated maintenance staff member, Tom, and beautifully arranged and decorated by our thoughtful housekeeper, Laurie, this cozy space holds twin beds, a small sitting area, and plenty of natural light for reading, journaling, or simply being.

Portiuncula (pronounced por-tee-OON-coo-lah) is named after the little chapel in Assisi that St. Francis repaired and prayed in – a place where the Franciscan movement took root – and it stands as a reminder of the humble, contemplative heart of our own Franciscan roots here at the Christine Center.

If you're longing for solitude in a heart-centered forest, we’d love to have you. Come for a private retreat, or view our upcoming programs below:

A short practice: Small Things with Great Love

1. Pause.

2. Notice who/what is nearest.

3. Do the next kind thing you can do.

4. Let this be enough for this moment, and return again when you can.

Great love doesn’t have to be grand. It can be steady, ordinary, and repeatable.

What’s your “next kind thing” today?🩵

Pause, soften, and awaken to the quiet wisdom within. 💛

From March 6–8, 2026, women are gathering at the Christine Center for By Women For Women 2026.

This annual retreat celebrates the power of women coming together in a space of connection, compassion, and renewal. Through yoga and mindful movement, meditation and breathwork, journaling and creative expression, Enneagram insights, heart-centered workshops and dharma talks, you’ll be invited to:

•Reconnect with your authentic self

•Nourish body, mind, and spirit

•Remember your inner strength in the company of other women

There’s also open time for rest, time on the land, and the option to book a massage for added support and care.

Held by a circle of guides: Robin Richards, Theresa Falvey-Hunt, Wendy Mitch, and Sara Perry, with massage therapy available from Heather Simmons.

If you’re longing for a weekend to realign with yourself and feel deeply supported in community, you’re warmly invited to learn more and register:

Goal met—thank you!🩵
We’re grateful to share that our year-end campaign reached its goal. Together we raised $70,570 and met our $50,000 goal—thank you to everyone who gave, shared, and stayed connected in so many ways.

Now we have a short “bonus round”: a generous donor is matching all gifts up to $5,000 through February 4 at midnight. That means your gift is doubled, dollar-for-dollar, until the match is fully unlocked.

Unlocking the full match helps strengthen general operations—hospitality and program support, scholarships/accessibility, care for the land and facilities, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly.

If you’ve already given—thank you. If you’d like to deepen your impact (or if you meant to give and didn’t get the chance), this is a beautiful moment to help.
