🦃 GOBBLE GOBBLE! THANKSGIVING FINE MOTOR FUN! 🦃

What You’ll Need:
•An empty box (Amazon, Cheez-Its, Cereal, etc.)
•Brown construction paper
•Colored pipe cleaners
•Colored beads (that match the pipe cleaners)
•Markers
•Small Containers

How To:
•Cover your box in brown construction paper
•Poke the corresponding number of holes in the top to the number of pipe cleaners that you have
•Draw a turkey face on the front of the box
•Put one pipe cleaner into each hole

Ways to Play:
1. Sort colored beads by color into individual containers. Then, have child use pincer grasp to place beads onto pipe cleaners one at a time, using one hand to stabilize pipe cleaner, and one hand to put the bead on.
**works on pincer grasp, counting, color matching, bilateral coordination**

2. Put all beads into a bowl together. Have child sort beads into individual containers by color. Then, have them use pincer grasp to pick up one at a time and place onto pipe cleaners.
**works on raking grasp, pincer grasp, color matching, bilateral coordination, and counting.**

✨Add in a dice to either of the above activities to add an extra component for your child to work on with number identifying and counting.
✨Have your child pick up one bead at a time, hold in palm, pick up another bead, transfer to palm, and continue for 3-5 repetitions. Then have them use fine motor skills to “walk” out one bead at a time to their finger tips from their palm to then place on matching pipe cleaner. This will add additional fine motor components of supination and pronation of forearm, and finger to palm and palm to finger translation, as well as shifting across fingertips.
✨Do this seated at a table, on their belly, in side sitting, bending down to pick up bead and then back up to table to place on pipe cleaner to provide change in positioning, etc.
✨If you are using activity with multiple children, could have a “race” to see who can put their beads on their designated pipe cleaner the fastest.

A fun activity for before bed, during Thanksgiving break, or even to break out at the Thanksgiving gatherings! Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions.

We spent some time this weekend learning about craniosacral therapy and bodywork strategies from Lori Hendrickson. It was so nice to learn, collaborate, network, and brainstorm together. We cannot wait to implement these strategies and skills with our patients!

Creative Corners Preschool Camp Week 4 - Back to School!✏️🚌✂️📚

We wrapped up our final week of summer camp last Thursday with our preschoolers! They worked on a wide variety of skills that they will need for preschool!

They worked on their core and shoulder strength, as well as their motor control coloring a picture on the wall in tall kneeling. Then they worked as a team to find all of the uppercase and lowercase letters in the sensory bins before matching them to the correct letter. After that, they went on a school scavenger hunt, completing gross motor movements to get to the items, then putting them in to the back pack! They had to be sure to have their listening ears on, as they were given specific instructions and clues as to who could go get the items. They then created their own mini chalkboard using small pieces of chalk to copy prewriting strokes from a model on the wall, then tracing their names. They placed school items in order from smallest to largest, and then used tangrams to fill in the back to school pictures!

These kiddos were BUSY and they were great direction followers, were eager to learn each week, made new friends, and had lots of fun preparing to head back to school in just a few short weeks! ✂️📚✏️🖍️

We had a blast with the camps this summer and are already brainstorming and collaborating for what’s next! Stay tuned 👀👀

Creative Corners Preschool Camp Week 3 - Dinosaurs!🦖🦕🦖🦕

The kids spent the morning saving the dinosaurs from their rubber band traps, using their fine motor and bilateral coordination skills while also building their hand strength. They also got to use their measuring and counting skills to see how tall the dinosaurs were. They worked on their dinosaur stomps, munches, roars, claws, and hiding skills together. They put their inference skills to good use to put the steps of how a dinosaur hatches from an egg in the proper order as well as to finish some dinosaur patterns. They then used their cutting skills to cut apart a triceratops puzzle and then glue them down in the correct order to put it back together! Lastly, the kiddos got to put their hand strength to good use to spray and sq**rt the dinosaurs to save them from the ice cubes that they all snuck in to! Teamwork and teamwork endurance allowed them to free all of the frozen dinos! 🦕🦖

We wrap up with these preschoolers this week and we are so proud of how much they have all learned during this summer camp!

Creative Corners Preschool Camp Week 2 - Picnic Continued!🧺🍌🍋🥨

The kids spent their camp session working on picnic themed activities again, but working on a variety of other skills! They all started their day drawing and putting stickers on a vertical surface, to increase precision, fine motor skills, and upper body strength and stability. They also worked on their inferencing skills to guess the picnic foods being described, stereognosis to feel in the picnic basket and guess the food based on touch, prewriting strokes to get the ants their food, and overall gross motor skills. They also got another chance to fill some lemonade and apple pie orders in the sensory bins, as well as made a fun lemonade craft using real lemonades for painting!

Another great week of learning and growing our preschool-based skills!!✏️

We spent last week with our Mindful Motion campers! We screened for retained primitive reflexes, engaged in numerous activities to help integrate those reflexes and spent intentional time working on midline crossing, left/right discrimination, and helping to get their bodies and brains working together! The campers did a wonderful job engaging in difficult tasks, challenging their bodies and brains, and making new friends along the way! 🧠

Creative Corners Preschool Camp Week 1 - Picnic 🍋🍉🧺🥨

The kids used their fine motor skills and worked on their hand strength to rip tissue paper to glue on and make a watermelon! Then, they used their listening and visual motor skills to find the items to put into their picnic baskets. For a movement break, the kids worked on their coordination, upper body strength, balance, and motor planning completing a picnic obstacle course and using their visual motor skills to scan to find the food told to them. The kids ended their day exploring various sensory bins, making orders given to them on cards and working on counting and number identification. 🧺🍍🍉🍋

We had so much fun with our first week of back to back preschool camps and are looking forward to the next few weeks together!

Little Learners Week 4 - Colors, Letters, & Numbers 🫟🎨🖍️

We wrapped up our final week of Little Leaners Camp last Thursday! We spent our time working on colors, letters, and counting. They sorted animals by their colors, using their hands and tweezers to make their hands stronger, as well as laying on their bellies to increase core strength and shoulder stability! They also identified the letters of their first name and were able to show off their creative sides decorating their letters, using paint, stickers, pom poms, and gems! To work on color identification and turn taking, they carried a colored ball across uneven surfaces and then stuck it on with its match! To end our day, they got use their hands to squeeze the water out of various size and colored pom poms and painted ice cream and fruit shaped ice cubes with paint and paint brushes!

Four weeks of fun has come to a close with this group of learners, but they have shown so much growth and improved their skills tremendously! We had the best time getting messy, playing, and learning with them!🖌️🖍️
