Ehlers-Danos Syndrome (EDS) and joint hypermobility affect connective tissue throughout the body - including the pelvic floor. This can contribute to pelvic pain, prolapse, bladder or bowel issues, and pain with in*******se. Pelvic floor dysfunction in EDS isnโt always weakness; the muscles cab be overactive, poorly coordinated, or unable to fully relax.
Because of this, traditional Kegels can sometimes worsen symptoms if done without proper assessment. Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on coordination, relaxation, breathing, and gentle stability - not just strengthening. When strengthening is appropriate, itโs carefully targeted and timed.
๐ If you have EDS or hypermobility and pelvic symptoms, schedule a pelvic floor PT evaluation to learn how targeted care can help.
