City of Greenville, NC - Government

Victim’s Name: Hannah “Khadija” Toby-Dean

City and State: Greenville, NC

Date of Incident: June 13, 2025

Incident Summary:
Hannah “Khadija” Toby-Dean was last seen by her mother on June 10, 2025, in the company of Shaun Causey. She informed her mother that she had arrived safely in Greenville, NC at 5:30 AM on June 11. The final communication from Hannah to her mother occurred on June 12 at 4:00 PM, when she stated she was preparing dinner. At that time, she was at the residence of Vanessa Barber in Greenville, NC.

In the early hours of June 13, 2025, at approximately 2:00 AM, Hannah spoke with a family member and expressed fear for her safety.

Later on June 13, the Willingboro Police Department notified Hannah’s mother, Charlee Dean, that Hannah had been pronounced deceased at 11:46 AM. The police also provided Charlee Dean with Shaun Causey’s phone number. Upon contacting Shaun Causey and Vanessa Barber, Charlee Dean was informed by Shaun Causey—repeatedly—not to assign blame to him. Vanessa Barber disclosed that she and Shaun Causey were cousins; it was later discovered that they share a child together.

On June 24, Hannah’s vehicle was returned; investigation revealed that the GPS tracker had been deliberately disabled, and her suitcase was returned empty, which was discovered after opening it and finding all her belongings missing. Her credit cards were discovered in the trunk, placed beneath the spare tire. Initial investigation was limited after Vanessa Barber claimed Hannah was her “Godsister,” resulting in the case not being actively pursued.

On August 1, 2025, a family member submitted evidence to the Greenville Police Department, prompting the reopening of the investigation.
