UPDATE.....................I've had several people text, ask on facebook and call me asking How I am doing, and what is going on with Lake Region massage... At this time, it is still by the governor's mandate that I will be closed until May 18th or longer, It is my feeling I will be closed for quite a while beyond that for several reasons. Keep reading if you want to be informed on what I'm thinking.
I would like you all to know my thoughts. I am taking this situation seriously for many reasons. I am keep myself informed through many credible sources and using this information to figure out so many different dynamics. There are many aspects of massage as a professional provider that I have to take into consideration that most people as clients won't think of and sure dont have to, so I'd like to explain a few. I never in my life thought I would be in this position when I went to massage school, it certainly isn't what I signed up for. I signed up to help people live healthy lives and help them heal.
Safety:. Your health as well as my own is #1. It is being suggested by leaders in the massage field ,ABMP, ATMA and MASSAGE Magazine that we wait to open our practices until there is a vaccine. That would definitely be the best case scenario, but that could be months/years down the line. Since financially for most that is not plausible, the top suggestion in the meantime is using PPE (personal protection equipment). Well, as we know, at this time and for the near future, that needs to be going to the front lines, so that will be unavailable to us in the massage industry in the volume we would need. This is just the tip of the iceberg as to what CDC and OSHA are recommending , but just giving you an idea. As for my safety, I have a deficient immune system and Stevens Johnson Syndrome - enough said on that.
Insurance: During this time of pandemic, it is unsure and not much is being said regarding what will and will not be covered. Right now, if we are closed by the governor, we are not covered by our malpractice insurance. This means we can not practice. When we are opened .up our providers will need to decide how they will cover us - For instance, person A comes in and despite my precautions, client B comes in after A who was an asymptomatic carrier. Person B ends up getting the Coronovirus and it turns into symptomatic Covid-19 and it's traced back to Lake Region... what's going to happen? For now, until there are clearer answers, as a sole proprietor, I'd need to be safe. Not only that, if I'd catch it, Lake Region will be closed, if not shut down.
Education,/Certification: . I love what I do, but it has been work..19 years.... I don't want to jeopardize losing my certified standing by going against the governor's mandate, by jumping too fast and not thinking things through.
It is VERY important to me to do this correctly and to the best of my ability as there are several more areas that need critical thinking but I pointed out the top ones. I hope you can understand and appreciate that I, Brenda, the massage provider at Lake Region Massage & Bodyworks want to do the best ethically in all aspects in this pandemic situation for each of us. Thank you! Definitely, if you have questions, please let me know.
