A common saying, “Time heals all wounds”.

Also some research shows that people adjust and heal emotionally in about the same amount of time whether they get counseling or not.

Healing does come through acceptance and adjustment in most situations, but we are here to help the long-term healing to be the best possible.

If you break a bone, there is a crucial amount of time to get it set and casted in order to help it heal PROPERLY. The bones will heal no matter what, but proper attention at the right time helps to bring about the most ideal healing long-term.

When the bone is set and casted properly, the healing process commences, and a calcium ring or band forms around the cracked area so that that bone is actually stronger than it was before the break occurred. This is not always the case if it is not properly set and casted, but it will still heal, just not in the best manner.

Also the bone that heals properly will not break in that same spot because of its now being stronger.

That’s what we’re here to do, to help commence a healing process that sets things to heal in the right direction guided by the Great Physician.

God bless!
Dan

Eccles 3:1-15

1
There is an appointed time for everything,

and a time for every affair under the heavens.
2
A time to give birth, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
3
A time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to tear down, and a time to build.
4
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them;

a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
6
A time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7
A time to rend, and a time to sew;

a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
8
A time to love, and a time to hate;

a time of war, and a time of peace.
9
a What profit have workers from their toil?
10
I have seen the business that God has given to mortals to be busied about.
11
b God has made everything appropriate to its time, but has put the timeless* into their hearts so they cannot find out, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.
12
c I recognized that there is nothing better than to rejoice and to do well during life.
13
Moreover, that all can eat and drink and enjoy the good of all their toil—this is a gift of God.
14
I recognized that whatever God does will endure forever; there is no adding to it, or taking from it. Thus has God done that he may be revered.
15
* d What now is has already been; what is to be, already is: God retrieves what has gone by.

IT IS NORMAL TO FEEL ANXIETY AS THINGS RE-OPEN AND RESTRICTIONS ARE RELAXED.

This is a normal reaction to change. We’ve heard reports that the relaxing of restrictions is making people feel how they felt a year ago when the restrictions were first put into place.

Fear. Anxiety. Out of control. Life changing decisions. Even anger and despair. Sometimes we even feel paralyzed.

Did you know excitement and anxiety function the same in your brain and body? This tells us it is all about how we perceive the emotion we are experiencing. Are you experiencing distress (extreme anxiety)? Are you experiencing eustress (normal psychological stress that is beneficial for the experiencer)? Are you experiencing excitement? Maybe you’re feeling a little bit of all three at the same time?

Again normal. However, if you’re realizing that your distress is interfering with your life, work, and/or relationships, please give us a call and get an appointment set up with one of our many experienced therapists! We’d love to walk alongside you during this exciting reopening time!

We at Crossroads have seen first hand how the pandemic has affected the people surrounding us. Increased stress, anxiety, and depression are all common reactions to how life has rapidly shifted in the past 10 months.

We have noticed our youth getting hit particularly hard. They are feeling the effects and stress of the world around them, but are not developmentally able to make sense of it on their own.

So, we have created this informational guide for caretakers to help navigate the affects on the mental health of their children and teens due to the pandemic. It is evidence based, faith filled, and full of practical ideas on how we can help our kids and teens make sense of and cope with the changing world around them. Simply click the link and give it a look!

Are you anxious about wearing a mask? Have you suffered from anxiety in the past, and are now experiencing even more anxiety about wearing a mask? Are you normally a pretty relaxed person, who is all of the sudden experiencing anxiety about wearing a mask? Do you have troubles breathing while wearing the mask? Do you have racing and/or intrusive thoughts while wearing a mask?

If you could answer yes to any of the above questions, you may benefit from counseling that includes systematic desensitization to mask wearing.

Systematic desensitization is a form of counseling that slowly exposes the client to more anxiety stimulating situations while simultaneously teaching relaxation exercises. This helps us be able to undertake more anxiety provoking situations, while feeling less anxiety, aka wearing a mask for longer periods of time with less anxiety.

Since masks aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, you deserve to feel safe and comfortable while wearing one. Please contact Crossroads to get an appointment set up with Dan Nelson, Barb Nelson, or Kathryn Lichty today!!

History

Crossroads can be traced back to a solitary walk. Daniel Nelson was walking on the long driveway to his family farm in 1985. By the end of the walk, he shifted the direction of his future from agriculture to Counseling and Psychology based on a sense of calling to the field of Counseling. Daniel was set to attend North Dakota State University for Agricultural Engineering, but switched his major to Psychology the day he arrived at NDSU for freshman orientation. Having completed his bachelor’s degree through NDSU in 1989, he went on to Trinity Graduate School through Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL, obtaining his masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 1991. Daniel did supervised private practice in the greater Chicago area until 1994. He was on staff for one year at Wears Valley Children’s Ranch/School near West Century Sevierville Tennessee before moving to Minnesota in the fall of 1995, initially working as an independent contractor for a counseling agency/ministry. In February 1998, Crossroads was initially formed with two staff.
