Wake your child at their normal clock time (even if the night felt messy) and get bright light within 30 minutes. Sunlight is the fastest way to reset the body clock.

Keep naps and bedtime at their usual clock times. Consistency helps the internal clock catch up within a few days.

โ Watch for overtired cues.
You may need bedtime 15โ30 minutes earlier for a couple of nights. Overtired kids have a harder time adjusting.

Keep it calm, predictable, and screen-free before bed. Familiar cues = faster regulation.

When I was a sleep tech in Des Moines, Iowa, I worked with a woman who had struggled with sleep and had a history of anxiety and depression for many years.
During her sleep study, we discovered that she had severe sleep apnea. We set her up with a CPAP device and she slept with it for about three hours.
When she woke up, she told me that was the best sleep she had gotten in 20+ years. Her response was an emotional one and she gave me a big hug.
Truth is Iโm not a hugger โ but I will always remember her story.
This is where my passion for sleep started and why I eventually opened the Sleep Center of Willmar.
