This little one has a goal to throw rocks in a creek. There’s motivation to do repeated squats and grasping/throwing with the more involved hand. Building strength while enjoying the little things in life that make him happy!!!
Research strongly supports interventions that incorporate real-life tasks and child-generated movements for children with cerebral palsy. Strength training and goal-directed activities have the “green light” as evidenced based treatments.

It’s World Cerebral Palsy Day! Cerebral Palsy is the most common movement condition in children. Very early intervention often makes a difference, especially with intensive therapies. Consider donating to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation to fund research to help all people with CP. https://www.yourcpf.org/treatments/

HABIT-ILE is an acronym for Hand and Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy- Including Lower Extremities. It’s mostly offered in research settings with evidence supporting effectiveness (cited below) for developing mobility, hand function, self-care, and leisure skills. It’s mostly available through research programs in camp- like settings for several hours per day for a few weeks. Some Physical Therapists have the skills to extend these principles into the real world for intensive bimanual and bilateral therapy programs. We can incorporate activities such as climbing on a playground, ball play, carrying things, stairs and so much more!!

Bowling alleys can be overwhelming! Here's a quick adaptation for children with Cortical Visual Impairment! Grab a black yoga mat and trifold board. Add simple pins and a red ball...voila! For children who need more support, use a bowling ramp or a switch accessible fan to blow the ball. Super fun!
