Is the weather taking it's toll on you?

Deep tissue massage is a popular therapy that targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, and it offers a variety of benefits, especially for people who experience chronic pain or tension. Here are some of the key benefits:

1. Pain Relief
Chronic Pain: Deep tissue massage is often used to treat chronic pain conditions, such as lower back pain, neck pain, or fibromyalgia, by addressing tightness and adhesions in the muscles.
Muscle Strain & Injury Recovery: It helps in speeding up the recovery process from injuries by increasing blood flow and promoting healing in affected muscles.
2. Improved Flexibility and Range of Motion
By breaking down knots and tight muscles, deep tissue massage can help improve overall flexibility and joint mobility. This is especially helpful for athletes or anyone who regularly engages in physical activity.
3. Reduced Stress and Tension
The deep pressure applied during the massage stimulates the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural "feel-good" chemicals. This helps reduce overall stress and promotes relaxation.
It can also lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), helping you feel more relaxed and calm.
4. Better Posture
When your muscles are tight or imbalanced, it can lead to poor posture. Deep tissue massage helps to release tension and encourage better alignment of the body, which can lead to improved posture over time.
5. Increased Circulation
Deep tissue massage improves blood flow by targeting deeper muscle layers and increasing circulation. This can lead to better oxygenation of tissues and faster removal of toxins from the body.
6. Improved Sleep
The relaxing effects of deep tissue massage can also promote better sleep. By reducing tension and stress, it can help you unwind, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
7. Reduced Muscle Tension & Spasms
The massage technique targets knots and muscle spasms that cause discomfort, helping to release tension in the muscles and providing relief from conditions like sciatica or muscle cramps.
8. Enhanced Recovery After Exercise
If you're an athlete or someone who exercises regularly, deep tissue massage can help reduce muscle soreness and aid in recovery by releasing built-up lactic acid and improving circulation to muscles that may have been overworked.
9. Emotional Relief
Sometimes, physical tension can be related to emotional stress or trauma. Deep tissue massage can provide emotional benefits by releasing stored tension in the body, helping to relieve emotional stress and contribute to a sense of well-being.
10. Improved Lymphatic Drainage
This massage technique can help stimulate the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste products from the body. Better lymphatic circulation can help in detoxification and improve your immune system's functioning.

If you're new to deep tissue massage, it's a good idea to discuss your specific needs with the therapist so they can adjust the pressure and technique to your comfort level.

Steve Stevenson is with James Frank.

Therapeutic massage to restore range of motion, balance, and relieve tension and stress.
Hello, my name is James, and I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2013.
Many of my clients have asked me what I did before becoming a massage therapist and/or why I chose to do this. I was working in construction and had a back injury which resulted in chronic low back pain. Injections didn't help and while the pain meds helped relieve the pain, they also made me drowsy. I finally tried massage, and for the first time in years, the pain was gone. To make a long story short, here I am, 10 years later, helping other people with their pain issues.
My experience allows me to use a combination of techniques tailored to the needs of each individual client.
I do this because I know...
" It's harder to take care of others if you don't take care of yourself."
I also have a female therapist available on a limited basis.
Please feel free to contact me by text or phone for more information and availability.
If I can't answer, please leave a message or text and I will get back to you.

🧠 How Medical Massage Helps with Neuropathies
1. Improves Circulation:
Neuropathies often reduce blood flow to affected nerves and tissues. Massage increases local circulation, which supports nerve repair, reduces inflammation, and brings oxygen and nutrients to damaged areas.
2. Reduces Pain and Tingling:
Targeted techniques like myofascial release and trigger point therapy can reduce nerve compression, helping to relieve symptoms like burning, tingling, or numbness—especially in cases like sciatic neuropathy, carpal tunnel, or diabetic neuropathy.
3. Releases Muscular Tension:
Tight muscles can press on nerves, exacerbating pain or altering nerve signals. By softening those tissues, massage reduces mechanical nerve irritation and restores comfort.
4. Enhances Lymphatic Drainage:
Neuropathy can be worsened by swelling or inflammation. Techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) help reduce fluid buildup and detoxify the tissue.
5. Promotes Nerve Reeducation and Relaxation:
Soothing, slow strokes calm the nervous system and can retrain the body to interpret sensory signals more normally. This is helpful in cases of hypersensitivity or central sensitization that often accompany chronic neuropathies.
Common Conditions That Benefit:
Peripheral Neuropathy (diabetes-related)
Sciatic Nerve Compression
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Post-Surgical Nerve Irritation
Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy
Note:
Medical massage does not cure neuropathy but plays a powerful role in symptom relief, functional improvement, and overall comfort—especially when coordinated with your healthcare provider.

Symptoms of the psoas muscle.

When the psoas muscle is tight, overactive, or imbalanced, it can lead to a wide range of symptoms that are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Common signs of psoas dysfunction include chronic lower back pain, hip tightness or instability, pelvic tilt, and difficulty standing fully upright. Many people also experience groin pain, digestive discomfort, or a sensation of tightness deep in the abdomen. Because the psoas is closely tied to the diaphragm and nervous system, tightness in this muscle may also contribute to shallow breathing, fatigue, and heightened anxiety. Addressing psoas-related issues through targeted therapy is essential for restoring alignment, mobility, and emotional balance.
Medical Massage for the Psoas
Medical massage targeting the psoas muscle focuses on releasing deep-seated tension in the core and lower back. As the psoas plays a crucial role in posture, movement, and spinal stability, dysfunction can contribute to lower back pain, hip discomfort, and restricted mobility. Through gentle, strategic pressure and precise body positioning, massage techniques help lengthen and release the psoas, improve pelvic alignment, and restore core balance—offering relief from chronic tightness and pain.

The Hidden Danger of Stress
Stress isn’t just a feeling—it’s a silent disruptor of your body’s health. While occasional stress is normal, chronic stress can quietly wear down your body and mind, often without obvious warning signs.
Here’s what makes it dangerous:
⚠️ It Triggers Inflammation
Constant stress keeps your body in “fight-or-flight” mode, flooding it with hormones like cortisol. Over time, this leads to systemic inflammation, which is linked to heart disease, digestive issues, and autoimmune conditions.
🧠 It Affects Your Brain
Stress can shrink the hippocampus (your memory center) and increase anxiety and depression risk. You might feel foggy, forgetful, or emotionally overwhelmed without knowing why.
🩺 It Masks Itself as Other Illnesses
Chronic stress can show up as headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, weight gain, or fatigue—making it hard to trace back to stress as the root cause.
💔 It Can Break Down Your Immune System
Long-term stress weakens your defenses, making you more vulnerable to colds, infections, and slower healing.
Massage therapy, deep breathing, rest, movement, and mindfulness are proven ways to reduce stress and protect your long-term health. Don’t ignore the signs—your body is speaking.

Ok, it's been a while since I posted anything. I'm not really a big social media fan, I prefer Face to Face over Facebook. Most of what I said in the last post is still true except now it's winter and the office is warm. I'm also offering a more potent CBD oil option than what I started using when I opened the office. Getting a lot of really good feedback on that. (And a lot of really relaxed clients too).
I'm also getting busier, so now is a good time to schedule an appointment and get on my client list before I get too busy to take on new clients.
Stay loose, Stay flexible, and Stay healthy.
