Do you have swelling in your legs and feet?
Lymphatic drainage massage can help.
Lymphatic drainage massage (often called manual lymphatic drainage, MLD) is a very gentle, clinical massage technique designed to help your lymphatic system move fluid more efficiently.
What it does:
Your lymphatic system helps remove waste, toxins, and excess fluid from the body. When it’s sluggish, fluid can build up causing swelling, puffiness, heaviness and tight skin. (Often in the legs, ankles and feet)
Lymphatic drainage massage:
● Encourages lymph flow toward lymph nodes
● Reduces fluid retention and swelling
● Supports immune function
● Promotes relaxation (it’s very light pressure)
Common benefits:
● Reduced swelling (edema, post-surgery swelling)
● Less bloating or puffiness (especially face and legs)
● Relief from lymphedema (when done by a trained therapist)
● Faster recovery after surgery or injury
● Many people report better sleep and less stress
What it feels like:
Not deep or painful at all.
Think soft, slow, skin-stretching movements, not muscle kneading. If it feels intense, it’s probably not true lymphatic drainage.
Who it’s often used for:
● Post-surgical recovery (cosmetic or medical)
● Lymphedema patients
● Chronic swelling or inflammation
● People who feel “puffy” or retain water easily
When to avoid it (important)
Not recommended if you have:
● Active infection or fever
● Untreated cancer affecting lymph nodes
● Blood clots (DVT)
● Severe heart failure
(Always check with a healthcare provider if unsure.)
