The Winter Solstice occurs when the Sun reaches its lowest arc in the sky relative to the Earth.
It is the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
This happens because the Earth is tilted away from the Sun at its maximum degree.
From this point forward, light begins to return, even though winter deepens.
Maybe you can feel it, in your bones, in your dreams. Mother's Night is here. When we look at the universe from the lens of womb cosmology, we see this moment of the winter solstice as the epitome of the dark, fertile womb. There is a holy hush if you listen close enough, it will surround you in it's mystery.
What this seasonal occurrence reminds us is that even darkness reaches it's fill. We've entered the farthest descent into darkness and alas this too is sacred, necessary for it is from here that life begins. All life begins in the dark, whether it be in the dark soil of a garden that will bloom into bounty, or the pulse of life within the dark womb of a mother pregnant with child. Even the new moon symbolizes the potency of darkness as it is the creative pulse point of each month's cycle. Life doesn't arrive fully formed, it emerges slowly. The holy is born quietly, not triumphantly.
The winter solstice is not a celebration of brightness, but of trust. That something greater is going on here, something timeless, infinite, intelligent and benevolent. And friends, we are part of this mystery. Which is why we pause to honor these auspicious moments with presence. In doing so, we attune ourselves with the magickal mystery that is life.
Find moments of stillness, practice listening, go inward, allow what needs to rise and be witnessed
Embrace the uncertainty, the deep, dark spaces held within and feel held by our Holy Mother - let her comfort you, let her be your refuge, your safe space. Nourish your nervous system, drink warm tea and light candles. Allow yourself to just be.
And above all, trust the light is coming
