We have one of the most dedicated teams in Willows, and they don’t deserve this. Glenn Medical Center has served this community for 75 years, but like many rural hospitals across the nation, we are facing impossible odds.

Communities like ours—small, hardworking, and vital to feeding the world—are being left behind simply because we aren’t in major cities. Without support for rural healthcare, access to emergency services will continue to disappear, and lives will be at risk.

Hundreds of rural hospitals across the U.S. are at risk of closing according to advocacy groups. NBC News’ Liz Kreutz reports on Glenn County, CA where the rural community’s only hospital is set to close later this month after a loss of federal funding.

We previously announced that Glenn Medical Center’s Emergency Department would close on October 21, 2025. Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages, our ER must close earlier.

👉 The ER will permanently close by 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

After this time, please call 911 for emergencies or go directly to the nearest emergency department:

Colusa Medical Center – 199 E Webster Street, Colusa, CA 95932
Enloe Medical Center – 1531 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95926
St. Elizabeth Community Hospital – 2550 Sister Mary Columba Drive, Red Bluff, CA 96080

Our outpatient clinics will remain OPEN and available for same-day acute care visits, call 530-934-1832 to schedule an appointment.

We are so heartbroken over the loss of our hospital, Glenn Medical Center… GMC served Willows and Glenn County for 75 years, and was designated as a critical access hospital for nearly 25 years. Our clinics will remain open, but our ER will close in 60 days, and the rest of the hospital and services soon after that. 😞
