The Tongue Tie Team

The Tongue Tie Team Jess and Rachael are a specially trained, integrative team helping babies feel better and feed better in southeastern NC.

The Tongue Tie Team is proudly associated with Renassiance Dental and Sarah Pless, DDS as their local laser release provider. Part of their mission is to connect parents with resources (release or no release) to facilitate optimal development for the parent-child dyad. If you are a provider working with oral ties please reach out so we can continue building our network.

Come see us tomorrow! Dress up time!!!!

Picture this: An autumn afternoon filled with bubbles floating through the air, children in costumes delighting in the simple joy of being together, and parents connecting over the shared experience of raising little ones. That’s exactly what I’m hosting on October 26th, and I’d love to see you there.

A lot of parent worry about them~ can they cause a gap in their teeth? 😁
Studies suggest no!
Do they cause issues with nursing? 🤔
Sometimes! If baby is unable to fl**ge at the breast, it can be hard to create a seal. Possibly leading to more air intake or shallow latch.
Its important to have an IBCLC or Frenectomy *team* that assesses both appearance AND function. We also always want to use surgery as the last resort. Your team may have other suggestions before referring for a release of these tissues.

Working with us looks like:
👍A full and functional assessment on your baby's body, breastfeeding/feeding journey, birth history, and an oral exam.
👍 A clear care plan on making feeding better for you and your baby.
👍Resources such as: a frenectomy provider based on your needs and location. A bodyworker, a speech language therapist, an OT or PT, best bottles, Paci's and toys to help your baby reach their feeding goals.
Have questions for us??
We'd love to hear them!

Tongue tie wound sites heal rapidly. By day 2, the healing process is underway. For good results, however, it's important to slow healing down. Learn why now.

Looking at the whole baby, not just the mouth is so important!
We look at function, not just the physical restrictions. Sometimes when those oral restrictions are present, it can cause tension and uncoordinated movements in baby.

Ouch!! Vasospasms can be linked to poor latches caused by oral restrictions. It's important to have an IBCLC assess latch and baby's oral anatomy when having pain during feeds.

It can be very confusing when your IBCLC suspects a tongue tie and then your Pediatrician says they don't.

Here are a few things to consider...

👩‍💻do your research, you should never feel pressured either way and your IBCLC should always give you options
🫵 you know your baby best
📚 ask your providers what kind of recent training they took/have specific to your concerns. Did you know most Pediatricians do not have a lot of breastfeeding education? What about continuing education on oral restrictions? So much has changed, even in the past year!
🏅be your baby's advocate; if you feel something isn't right it's always ok to ask for a second opinion
Lastly, just because there is a tongue tie does not always mean a release (a frenectomy,) has to be done or done right away 😛 it's all a piece of the puzzle and informative!
