Today marked 1 year that Walk With Me has been officially open for business, and 1 full year of walking with our clients through all the ups and downs of life. Thank you to all of those who have allowed us to serve you this past year, and those who we will continue to serve this coming year!

As a provider of services to people with Autism, our hearts are with you, and I will gladly take data to help see the growth that is often times invisible.

Just because we can’t see something, doesn’t mean it’s not there. I saw this recently and wanted to share this with you all.

When raising kiddos with autism, it’s easy to sometimes get caught up in the daily struggle. We’re tired, overwhelmed, and about a million other things. When progress feels slow with our kids, we can blame ourselves for not doing enough or endlessly worry about their future. Trust me, I’ve been doing this for 23 years and I get it.

Often times, however, growth and progress are taking place but maybe not in ways we anticipated. Just remember that simply because we aren’t seeing progress on the surface, doesn’t mean our kids aren’t experiencing growth.

Had the amazing pleasure this past week of attending the ABAI Autism conference in Las Vegas. Got to learn some really cool and helpful things, connect with some other professionals, see some fabulous sights, and got some nice merch to boot! I simply love attending professional conferences like this. It’s always rejuvenating and refreshing and gives me great ideas of ways I can better serve the clients who chose to Walk With Me.

The challenge has been accepted!! Hopefully in the next 1-2 years, our owner and Director will fluent in ASL and able to directly communicate with the deaf individuals we serve.

Can we have an honest conversation about this concept?? My 20 years of experience has included seeing this in client’s more times than I can count. As a professional in this field, all I can do is respect boundaries and do my best not to trigger this response, advocate for my client when I see this happening, and teach skills to overcome this.

One of the best ways to teach a new skill, is through hands on experience. Recently I had the chance to help a client with diabetes learn how to bake some sugar free sugar cookies! Not only was it fun, but it helped them learn a new healthier way to enjoy a holiday treat!
