To preserve and maintain the precious gift of eyesight is an awesome responsibility. Simon, OD, accepted that responsibility by launching a private optometric practice in Wilmington, DE. From the beginning, he put patients’ needs first. "I always believed that if I treated everyone as being part of my family, I would do what was best for each of them,” says Dr. Simon. https://twitter.com/SimonEyeAssoc | http://pinterest.com/simoneye/ | http://www.simoneye.com/blog

✨The Fox Run team kicked off the holiday season with a team Gingerbread House competition and festive celebration!

With an incredible 350 patient votes total across all teams, it was the Opticians Team’s UP-themed gingerbread house that truly captured our patients’ hearts 🏆

We’re grateful for this amazing group who shows up every day with heart, teamwork, and dedication to our patients.

Wishing our Fox Run team, and our entire Simon Eye community, a joyful and healthy holiday season!

December is Safe Toys & Celebrations Month! 🎄
Today's topic: Screen time during the holidays. 💻

While technology has its place in learning and play, too much screen time can take a toll on developing eyes. Studies show that increased screen exposure is linked with vision issues like digital eye strain and a higher risk of nearsightedness (myopia) in children.

So what can you do?
🎁 Instead of gifting video games and tablets this holiday season, opt for creative toys that inspire imagination, like building sets, musical instruments, or art supplies.
❄ While children are on winter break, encourage outdoor play, the bright light stimulates dopamine release, slowing eyeball elongation. The eye's natural focus is at a distance; prolonged close-up focus strains the eye, while distance viewing that outdoor play provides offers relief.
📆 Worried about myopia? Parents can schedule a pediatric eye exam at Simon Eye locations throughout the region! https://www.simoneye.com/make-appointment/

December is Safe Toys & Celebrations Month! 🎄

The holidays bring a time of laughter and fun, but they also bring a spike in preventable eye injuries.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), roughly 1 in 10 children’s eye injuries that lead to emergency-room visits are caused by toys, especially ones that shoot projectiles. Many of these injuries occur around the holidays, when toy-giving is common.

The best eye care starts with prevention. Choose safe toys this holiday season. Avoid toys with sharp edges or projectiles when shopping for young children to keep the focus on joy; not preventable injuries.

December is Safe Toys & Celebrations Month! 🎄

The holidays bring a time of joy, but they also bring a spike in preventable eye injuries.

➡️According to a holiday-season safety communication from a trauma-center eye-care facility, their ER sees an “uptick in facial injuries," including eye injuries, during the holidays. This rise is attributed in part to decorations, glitter, pine needles, and other debris.

As you celebrate with family and friends, here are a few safety reminders to help keep everyone’s eyes healthy:

1. Choose safe toys: avoid toys with sharp edges or projectiles for young children.
2. Be cautious with holiday celebrations: sparklers and champagne corks both contribute to the spike in preventable eye injuries.
3. Decorate with Care: be mindful of hanging ornaments, pine needles, and wire decorations.
4. Be vigilant about kitchen and party safety: use caution around crowded kitchens.

✨This holiday season, let’s keep the focus on joy; not preventable injuries.
