I talk to a lot of parents to who tell me their child dropped their second nap when they turned 1. Every single time, I tell them it was too early. There is a fake transition around that time due to developmental leaps. ⠀

So how do you know when your kiddo is ready to drop? Most children drop their 2nd nap around 15 - 18 months. Signs that your child is ready - your child boycotts either the am or pm nap on a regular basis (2 weeks or longer). Since we want to continue with the healthy afternoon nap, you can begin by capping the morning nap by 15 minutes every few days until you find the magic combo. If you are at the point where you are going to cap it less than an hour, drop it! ⠀

How old was your kiddo when they transitioned from 2 naps to 1 nap?

Consumer Reports recently shared that "Joe Biden signed into law the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, which bans two dangerous infant sleep products: inclined sleepers and crib bumper pads, both of which are unsafe for infant sleep and have been linked with more than 200 reported deaths."
I am so thankful these products are being recalled. The heartbreaking part is there are still so many unsafe products out there. Please share this post with other parents and let's spread the word!

On March 13th, we will move our clocks one hour ahead. So what does that mean? A 6am wake up time will really be 7am, right? Not necessarily. For those of us who have early risers, they may sleep in for a day or two. Unfortunately, our bodies will adjust to the new schedule and revert back to our natural wake up time. Sorry parents! Here are some tips to the transition as painless as possible.

We want to know whether we have a sensitive sleeper or not. A sensitive sleeper usually has trouble with any changes to their sleep location or schedule. Depending on if you have a sensitive sleeper or a child that goes with the flow, you may decide to start thinking about a plan to adjust to daylight savings time or decide to do absolutely nothing!⠀

Aim for that extra boost of light in the morning. With it staying light longer, we may struggle with getting our children to bed. Use blackout or room darkening curtains to your advantage at bedtime as well. If you have an older child that uses a form of “Ok to Wake” clock, make sure you set the new time an hour later and set the expectations up front. ⠀

In the days leading up to the time change start with little adjustments to their schedule. Every couple of days, adjust bedtime by 15 minutes. By the end of the week, you will be close to new adjusted time bedtime and a normal wake up time. You can do a similar adjustment after the time change and achieve the same results.⠀

What have you done in the past to help make Daylight Savings easier for your family?

🙋 Raise your hand if you are already dreading the time change next weekend. Yep, we turn our clocks back on Sunday, Nov 7. Here are some tips to help you get through it.

🌞 GET MORE SUNLIGHT. Aim for that extra boost of sunlight in the morning as it will help with the adjustment. Get outside after you wake up!

🔕 CURB THE EARLY AM WAKE UP. Be sure to block out any unwanted light to eliminate early wakings by using black out curtains to your advantage.

📜 SET THOSE EXPECTATIONS UP FRONT. If your kiddo has an “OK To Wake” clock, make sure you set the new time an hour earlier and set the expectations up front!

⏰SHIFT THE SCHEDULE. If you have a sensitive sleeper and want to have a plan, here is an idea for you! The days leading up to the time change start with slight adjustments to their schedule. By the end of the week, you will be at the new adjusted times. You can make similar adjustments after the time change and achieve the same results. Check out the table for an example. Be sure to let me know how it goes!

How many times have you thought about...

Being able to have a cup of coffee or tea in the morning by yourself.

Have the energy to start that exercise routine to get back in your pre-pregnancy body.

Have an adult conversation with your partner that doesn’t revolve around how tired you both are.

Be able to empty the dishwasher, start AND finish a load of laundry, or just sit down and binge watch your favorite reality tv show without fear of your child waking after a 30 minute nap.

Actually leave the house to have dinner with friends and enjoy yourself!

You are probably saying, it's just not possible. I'm here to tell you it is! ❣️I have a feeling that now is your time❣️ If you believe it too, there's so much that is possible for you.

Is your toddler refusing the morning nap? Once baby is consistently playing through one nap, it is probably time to transition from 2 naps to 1. But before we jump right into dropping the nap, it can be helpful to cap the morning nap. We want to continue with the healthy afternoon nap so begin by capping 15 minutes every few days until you find the magic combo. If you are at the point where you are going to cap it less than an hour, it's time to transition. ⠀

We always have lots of exciting activities planned for our families during the summer time but try to remain as consistent with sleep schedules as possible! If your child is well-rested to begin with the occasional late night or skipped nap should not affect them too much. However several days/nights of being off schedule can do a number on anyones sleep. Do your best not to skip both a nap and have a late bedtime on the same day. Try to plan out your summer events so they dont all happen at once! Do you have any travel plans coming up? 4th of July parties? Let me know! ✈️🏖⛺️
