Surgery remains definitive treatment for Graves’ disease. Every case is unique and deserves a discussion with an endocrinologist and endocrine surgeon to help make the right choice.

Changes in thyrotropin-binding inhibitory immunoglobulin levels for people with refractory Graves’ disease differed for those undergoing total thyroidectomy vs. radioactive iodine therapy, according to study data. Adults with refractory Graves’ disease who underwent total thyroidectomy h...

I am now with Wilmington Surgical Associates at 1414 Medical Center Drive. I am working with my former partners Jim Harris and Elizabeth Weinberg and joining my new partners Greg Bebb and Mark Medley. The first 1.5 months have been hectic but excellent. I am confident that this organization can support our service to Wilmington and surrounding areas. We look forward to being available for your surgical needs for decades to come.

BIG NEWS!!

January 1, 2021 my current practice at Coastal Carolina Surgical Associates is re-aligning with Wilmington Surgical Associates. 2 of my current General Surgery partners Jim Harris and Betsy Weinberg will be joining Gregg Bebb and Mark Medley as Wilmington Surgical Associates. My current Vascular Surgery partner David Weatherford will stay at Coastal Carolina Surgical Associates and will be joined by Thomas Eskew from Wilmington Surgical Associates.

Basically, the General Surgeons in both groups will now be Wilmington Surgical Associates and the Vascular Surgeons will be Coastal Carolina Surgical Associates.

This will create a more synergistic practice on both sides which will directly improve the patient experience. We are all excited for the new change and look forward to serving you.

From Annals of Internal Medicine. WOW - this is so different from our current understanding! Game changer?

SUMMARY:
150 adult patients with Hashimoto-related symptoms despite euthyroid status on thyroxine and anti-TPO>100 randomized to total thyroidectomy or ongoing medical management.

SF-36 18 months later showed that in patients randomized to thyroidectomy, mean general health score increased from 38 to 64, fatigue score decreased from 23 to 14, and chronic fatigue decreased form 82% to 35%. No change in medically managed patients. The improvement corresponded with a decrease in anti-TPO titres.

Mind Blown. What are your thoughts?
